I apologize if this is a newb question, but I am a newb, so here I go... I was wondering if it is ok to run stock length shocks w/slightly lifted <2" springs... Any possible drawbacks? Anyone that has tried this, personal experience. Thanks in advance... Ryan
I've done it. You lose travel and the stock shocks aren't meant to carry heavy loads but if all you have is a lift and no armor, I'd say it'd be ok, temporarily until you get some real shocks on there.
LX, but I'm about to convert to traditional suspension. Just thinking about saving a little money on shocks. I don't really need the lift as I don't do much offroading, but OME springs are less expensive than OE so I figured I'd go for some 865's w/minimal lift, try to pick up some used OE T-bars and use some standard length OE replacement shocks. I'm running 275/70-16 tires now, no real plans for armor, maybe some 285's when these get thin, but mostly just a daily driver and family vacation rig, occasional camping trip, but nothing too extreme.
You'll be fine in that case. I'm running 866's and Iron Man T-Bars with stock shocks, it limits travel and speed off road for sure but it works well enough for now, probably give you a pretty good road ride.
Looking at doing this as I have the OME springs and torsions sitting in my garage, but haven't gotten around getting the springs or diff drop. Wondered the same thing, how did it work out for you? I didn't think I could put that stuff on without replacing stock shocks.
Thanks good to know. At the bare minimum I do plan to put the adjustable panhard as I've seen even just a small lift shift the axle out with the stock panhard

I lifted my cruiser 2" by adding 50mm spacers on the rear coils and cranking the T-bars. The ride is still great for normal use and off roading. The ride will only change when adding a lot of weight in the back.
I've got a 2000 LX470 with a 1.5 OME lift with diff drop and SPC UCAs. I'd love to try the OEM shocks. I do have a full set of BIOR skid plates and sliders on it. Would that weight be too much for the OEM shocks? My family is complaining that the ride with the OME shocks is worse than my diesel excursion. By the way Slee did a beautiful job on the AHC removal and suspension replacement and I love my BIOR sliders and skid plates
At less than $40 a side I thought it was worth a try. Happy I did. I have 2.5 inch medium lift and 33.5 inch ties. Just went through a nice trail ride with rocks and articulation, didn't feel any limits from the shocks. Definitely smoother, all around, than with the OME nitro sports I replaced. I don't have any armour, but I bet you'd be ok.
This is what i would like to do as my ride is at 194k miles and im feeling the springs and shocks are worn. Too much bouncy in the rear and mushy. I think OME 1.5" lift and OEM shocks will do great for us. We dont have allot of crazy trails in FL anyway.
