I'm working on a solid axle swap on my v8 Colorado and I'm using an fz80 e-locked front axle and complete front suspension for now ( might 3 link later) but I'm trying to figure out how much the stock springs will compress doi can get a good idea of where to mount my coil buckets and if I'm going to need to get 2 or 4" front springs to get my truck to sit right

So if I can get someone to go out and mesure there stock coil hight from the axle pad to the top of the spring seat on the coil bucket please

I have searched but was not comming up with anything but unloaded hight and I need the loaded/compressed hight

Thanks

Good luck. Asked the same question a couple weeks ago and got nothing. I don't think there are many stock height 80's left!

Wish I could help but I got the ironman springs on. Here's to keepin it relevant until someone gets froggy and busts out the tape measure.

Heck if someone will give me the compressed measurement on a 2" or 4" spring I can figure it out from there because I'm thinking ill have to use a 2" or 4" spring to level it with the rear

And thanks for looking guys

Here is a pic of what I got right now , nothing is in place yet I just rolled the axle under the truck ill be setting it in place today

I'm using ballistic fab adjustable coil buckets and shock towers and adjustable link bar mounts for the radius arm mount so I can adjust caster

The compressed height of the 80 spring when its in a Colorado with a v8?

Or the compressed height when its in an 80 with a cast iron straight 6?

Haha in a 80 sense as far as I know I'm the first to use an 80 suspension on a Colorado if I was looking for info on a Colorado I would have posted on the Colorado forums ;)

The weight of my truck with bumpers and other stuff is close to a stock 80 I'm just trying to get a ball park so I know where to set my adjustable coil buckets

Come on guys no one can walk outside with a tape measure and measure there 80 front spring and just tell me what springs your using

I'll be home later and I can post up then. I dont exactly have a stock 80 though... oh and ome 2" lift

Here is a link to a thread I posted with lots of measurements i took when getting new shocks. I have OME heavy's and these are the shocks I used.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/484263-doestch-prerunner-shocks-part-numbers.html

There is also an entire thread in the 80 fact section on shocks and measurements.

Much easier than getting someone to go out in the cold and take measurements. ITs all in the "search" function.

All great info on SHOCKS but I'm looking at SPRINGS and yes I skimmed through the FAQ before I posted but thanks for the shock info it will not help me any sense I'm not using 80 series factory shock mounts but still good info

I just measured mine. It's a recent lift with OME 850 on the front now.
I had before and after measurements of the front fender arches at the top, and saw a change of 3" with the lift, same tires, etc. I now measure 15" overall length on the front springs, so that means the old springs were compressed to 12" before the changeout.
Do you need spring cross section diameters or anything like that? Have calipers, will measure.
Hope this helps, and it will be interesting to see what onelow finds too.

Did you measure from the top, or bottom of the lower coil bucket.

like this?:

I measured from the estimated top of the spring to the tip of the coil as it sat in the lower perch. I'm guessing inches +/- 1/4 or so.
I would wag yours at 18", or about 6" gain over stock. Is that close?

Yeah. It's actually a 5" tjm coil, but it looks like I'm sitting at about 6" since my 80 is so light. Ill have to measure again with my doors off, I'd imagine I probably gain another 1/2-1"
