Doetsch prerunner shocks part numbers

I have been messing with fitting the doetsch prerunner shock to my 80 and am posting up the part numbers for anyone interested. I had several back and forths with doestch on the correct sizes. I started by giving them the vehicle and lift specs and the shock they sent were basically factory specs. I then gave them measurements of the OME shock that were worn out on my truck and got a decent set of rears but felt the fronts were still off.

I have the OME heavy's and a 30 mm spacer on the front. The truck sitting in the shop had the OME and the doestch shocks at a 22 1/2 inches of length with the max amount being 24 inches. I felt that this was not going to give enough flex for what I wanted. I understand that OME is designed for expedition style use but think for what most of us want, you will need more than 1 1/2 inches of down travel.

Here is what I have settled on.

8355 SS for the front. From Doetsch website, 26 1/2 extended, 15 1/2 collapsed

8282-sc rear 24 1/2 extended and 14 1/2 collapsed

I will measure out the ranges on the truck thursday evening to give an idea of how far they extend and retract from the sitting postion.

The shock were $204 for a set of 4 to my doorstep and look very impressive.

Very cool. Looking forward to hearing more.

Got my measurements tonight. I measured the exposed shaft on the shocks and I measured from the ground to the bottom of the control arm brackets.

Front. 6" sitting and 9" when wheel leaves ground.
Rear 5" sitting and 8 3/4 when wheel leaves ground.

Front bracket 16" and 20 1/4 when wheel lifts
rear braket 15 1/2" and 20 when wheel lifts

The shocks are completely extended but I also think the sway bar links are lifting the wheel at this point also. My next step is to loosen one of the shocks and see if the truck extends more.

Basically 3' of shock travel in front sitting point and 6 inches of compression and almost 4" in rear with 5" of compression.

Also along the same lines the frame lifted over 4" inches before tire lifted.

Funny, I just got mine today I had to go back and forth with them this week. J-springs with 1" spacers up front. I got the shocks today and they look good and beefy, however the shock stroke is not correct compRed to their chart. The shocks were supposed to be the same length and stroke as my current ones and they were not. (Same specs as OME L shocks)
FYI doetsch is closed on Fridays. I hope they will correct this quickly.

They measure there shocks differently than OME and the first set they sent were completely wrong. The second ones were close but were not exact. Thats when I started checking and measuring what I needed. The numbers I posted will work well with the lift setup I have. Each person may need to adjust to what they have on there truck. I went with longer shocks in the front because I have the 30 mm spacer in the front. When I started looking at the OME shock that came with the truck, I only had about 1 1/2 inches of travel left in the front in the sitting position.

I this was a rock crawling rig then I might want even more room, but I think for what I will use it ( D.D. trails and a few TLCA events) the 3 1/2 inches of travel will work. The next jump was almost 3 more inches of length and another 2 inches of lost compression or down around 4 " of compression.

I compared mine to another member "Thestunts" and I think Doetsch sent him incorrect ones also.

This is why I posted up this info. They are not very good at figuring lengths for you on the 80 series with lift. I gave the the year model and the lift and the shocks they sent me were 2 inches shorter than the factory shocks that came with no lift. They have been easy to deal with, but being closed on fridays sucks. Hopefully these numbers will help others spend less time on this process.

Curious how ride is improved with these shocks...

Rwhat: did you ever get yours setup? You have the same J's plus spacer I'm running. Mine measured out to
28.5' eye to eye right before unseating the spring. which is exactly how long an OME L shock is long.

Coolbreeze, the shocks they sent me were correct. I had them side by side next to the procomps and didnt realize the specs on the PC were a little longer. I misread the chart.

I got them installed and like the ride. Stiffer than the PC's but softer than the OME L's and the OME LTR's. I think the procomps depend on your spring setup and weight. Alot of people like them, but for my driving style and setup it didn't work for me.

Sweet! thanks for the reply..do ou have a granny or kamikazi driving style?
Which model number did you end up getting F&R?
And what adapter did you need?

2x 8350-SS $45.75 ea
2x 8350 $45.75 ea

I drive in between those two styles. I like the solid feel in the curvy hills and good feedback. I didnt need adapters for them. I tried everywhere to find them cheaper, but had no luck. Summit racing does not sell them except 2 different mini truck lowering shocks. If i had the cash i would like Bilstein 7100 with custom valving.

Just reordered shock from doestch. Didn't seem to be able to find the fronts that i ordered on the last truck. they were 8355 s1 s1. 26.5 extended, 15.5 compressed. Had to go with 8357. 26.25 and 15.00 measured. Will see how that fits up on truck and post back with results

They also have a new rebuildable that I have 812SS it's 17" to 29" they have shorter ones.

They needed a 1.5" bump puck to work.
I found these shocks to be a little bit soft for my liking. You might ask them to make the compression & rebound way more slower than off the shelf. These are a rebuild shock they said.
