Hello, I recently made the switch from the world of XJ and WJ jeeps to my first FZJ80. I have a few questions that I have not found the answers to in the forums yet and was hoping to get some assistance.

One of the first things I need to do is replace the rear coil springs to fix the common "cruiser lean". This brings me to my first question; Where can I find the normal factory length coils? All I can find is OME and SLEE coils that would give lift. It's my daily the largest tires I would put on it are 285s so no lift required. I'll probably do two overland trips a year so no big bumpers or storage systems (weight), so heavy duty springs are not ideal I also don't want to buy them for $180+ EACH from Toyota. I don't want to put a spacer on, I'd rather fix the issue and keep the cost down as much as possible.

What is my best option to keep it as close to stock height as possible? Is there a vendor that I haven't found that sells them? Donor Vehicles?

You could check with Beno. Maybe he can still get the factory springs.

I looked on the Toyota website and you can still get them but the price does not make sense to replace them with factory parts. Unless he can get them to me for less than half price, that's probably not an option.

The problem your going to have is once you replace the rear springs with new, OE springs, they are STILL going to give you some lift. You need to change front and rear to make it level. Remember, them springs have been supporting all that weight for 20+ years. Good luck to you though, and welcome to “the right side” of the tracks!:flipoff2:

I am more concerned about exceeding the amount of lift I can get from the coils without replacing anything else. It has new shocks and I'd rather not mess those up. Don't the OME's have .5"-2" as their stock height coils? I don't have much weight on it so I think I'd be closer to 2"

OME stock height springs will work fine with stock length shocks. Give Cruiser Outfitters a call for solid advice.

Welcome!

Cruiser lean? That’s new to me. Even with my stock ol 1993, the rear is higher than the front and I think my stock ol’ shocks just wore out my stock ol’ springs.

If you plan on lifting it just go straight to 37’s. You’ll wish that you did.

And if you want to stay stock just go with some ome’s. You may find some good deals in the classifieds or eBay.

I got some King Springs stock height ones from australia.
Right now I have maybe 150 lbs of s*** in the back, the 3rd row seats are still in there and it has a 50 lb bike rack in the receiver. It sags a little, just barely noticeable.

The spring rate is within 30 lbs/in of the factory springs. (200 lb/in on these vs 170 on stock). I got those figures from a chart somewhere here on mud.
Most of the OME, Slee, etc had 220+ lb/in, and I like a cushy ride. It does sag a lot when you load it up though, I would recommend in-coil airbags if you want to add 500 lbs of gear when you overland with softer springs such as these.
