If the bushings are OK once you get the springs off I'd re-use them. If you have to use a torch to get things apart then new bushings would be in your future. New U-bolts wouldn't hurt though.

So I was plundering through the FAQ and read this thread:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/276810-leaf-spring-lengths.html

Then I go look under the 40 and my front and rear springs are swapped....7 leafs in rear...6 in front.....

I understand thats backwards so is changing them going to make much difference in ride or ?...

Should I get new bushings when I swap them?

Thank you...

The PO may have done that to try to counteract the common rear end sag that 40's have. My 40, with stock springs, needs to come up almost 2" in the back to set level.

Bushing are pretty cheap, even if you go with the a set of poly bushing from Energy Suspensions or a similar company. Since you will already have the springs off, I would just go ahead and replace them. I would consider it cheap insurance. Just my two cents.

when i pulled my leaf springs, i am able to re-use all of mine except for the bushings that go to the pin on the front of the rear leaf springs. the bolt just wouldn't come out, but if you get a hammer and use the end that you pull a nail out with and slowly pry it out you might be able to re-use those bushings as well.

I ended up with every last bushing torched when the new springs were put in....I guess those rubber bushings didn't appreciate 35 years in the Nevada desert as much as the body did

I was wondering why it looked sort of jacked up in the rear.....

The bushings, and greasable shackle pins were new when they were put in a few years ago via the PO's resto attempt....The only mileage has come from me in the last 8 months that I've owned it...
Maybe they'll come out okay.....?

my apologies, I wasn't very clear. The bushings are new, I'm not worried about them during removal. I was wondering if there are any lift springs that use the oem bushings, so I won't have to repurchase those.

I'm retarded....thought I was responding to my stock bushings thread! Sorry guys! Stupid iPhone is too small..:) please continue.....
