Possibly a bit boring for the tastes for this crew …
I am in the process of overhauling the 3B out of the BJ70. While I am at it, it seemed appropriate to clean up the appearance/cleanability of external parts on the engine. To this end, I took a couple boxes of parts over to Brian at ACC (Smoking Gun) for powder coating. I picked them up today. I think he did excellent work considering the condition that they were in, but here are a few pictures so you can be your own judge.

I cleaned and degreased each part as best that I could, then media blasted them in the cabinet at ACC. Took me an entire afternoon, but it was well worth it since the ACC team did not have to spend that time on the prep.

Brian had the parts ready within a week. I was not in a hurry but Brian made sure that all the parts were ready to support the schedule at the machine shop.

Wrapped adding a step box to the rear swing out on the 80 this weekend. The intent is the box will be handy storage for recovery gear and some tools that will not require opening the rear hatch or gate. I wound up adding a drop down surface for lunch items or such as needed.

Thanks. No. I purchased the box. It is a step box for semi trucks (mounts to the frame). The size appeared good and this model has a larger opening lid allowing for loading/unloading larger items.

I went with the 18" wide model because I was concerned the 24" would obstruct too much visibility of the RHS tail light assembly. Also, I did not attached the steps on the front of the box since I have no use for them (did use the mounting holes for attaching the license plate brackets).

Damn dude, it might be time for an intervention! How rusty is that one from Boone. I lived up there for a while and never saw one that wasn’t rotten.

Not really bad. It was a CA truck up until about 5 years ago. Cab is solid. The bed is pretty eat up over the wheel wells, rear quarters and along the bottom of the tailgate. Which is perfectly fine for now. We are planning to pull the bed and building a flatbed for it.

Havent got underneath and crawled around much so not sure how it looks, but will tomorrow when we get home.

It brought back a ton of memories as I drove a 1990 regular cab for years. Only difference is mine is a 4cyl and this one is a v6.

I'll throw some more info up once we get it home, but it is going to be Erin's DD/shop truck for the wench'n bidness. She wanted to try and keep miles down on her GX and the price was right so we jumped on it.

On the bright side of social distancing, I have made some progress on home projects this weekend. Yesterday, I was able to dive into a repair on the Allis that has been on my list for months. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to position the tractor so it could be supported by the lift.

Yesterday, I was finally able to put the engine back together after getting the core back from the machine shop.

Today, it took me 4 attempts but I was finally able to get the 3B back into the BJ70. There is still a lot to do yet having the engine buttoned up to the tranny and the motor mounts is a sense of progress for me.
