What is a class 5 hitch?

Sent by a dumb ass with a smart phone.
A huge receiver, I think most standard hitches are class 3 but I could be wrong, my dad has a class 5 on his truck and has to use an adapter for a standard hitch.

That sounds expensive. Why does everything I try to do lately have to be so damn complicated?!

Every problem has a solution, shouldn't be to hard to figure something out.

The receiver part of the hitch can be referred to as class I,II, III, IV, V... I being the smaller and 5 being the most HD version.
etrailer.com has some good info... Looks like you will play hell with a trailer hitch unless you can get some of the sag off the rear end with the camper. On 2nd look.... appears camper body drops down below the trailer hitch...blocking it?

I'm thinking you want max trailer receiver if you put an extender on the it, which would mean Class V.. DO you have a strait shot out the back under the camper body.... That looks like a fairly decent distance.

What are those little dolly things I've seen some people run....its like a like a small axle with wheels that connects to the truck and then the trailer connects to it...can't recall the name...I'm sure that's fairly $$ though (don't think I would want one of these...though..I think its called a mule...looks like a problem child).

Air bag time?

Andy you can always get a goose neck trailer . The extender I had was 34" , my camper was very similar to yours . etrailer.com is where I purchased mine .

A gooseneck trailer is the ultimate goal but that will be a couple years down the road. Gotta make what ive got work for now.

I understand , that was my goal when I purchased the slide in camper . Here's a couple of pictures of the rig I had , if you look real close under the campers bumper you'll see the extender I was talking about . If I remember right it's 34" long . Had no trouble at all pulling the trailer you seen at Mardi Krawl .

http://www.etrailer.com/faq-hitchclasses.aspx here are your definitions for Class I...V

If you go to the link above in my other post it will carry you to a choice of extenders.... or at least ones carried by etrailer

I bought class V for my older 3/4 pickup and my present one has it too...at least on my truck the hitch is rated for more than I can tow legal...but I doubt the receiver will ever break or deform. As noted on the above page ...class 5 normally has 2.5 receiver rather than the 2 inch version, but most come with a sleeve reducer or you certainly can buy one that adapts you down to 2inch. I used the larger trailer hitch ball mount as welll on the same idea that its over-rated..(= safe ).

Andy...thats a nice camper.... Yea it looks like the ultimate combination is a goose neck and then mount camper to it and have enough room/capacity on the tail end to haul the 4wd.

Happy 4th of July guys. Hope you all had a good one.

Hi all
