I have the stink bug stance going on as i have read here. Front is a little lower than the rear on my medum 2.5 lift. Well, my caster is also 0. I was thinking that putting the spacer in the front to level it out might give me a little positive caster, no?

Also, anyone got the linky for the mr. gasket spacers?

Your caster should be 2 to 4 degrees positive. If you add a spacer your caster will get worse and probably go to negative 1. Not a good thing.

argg! I guess i'll just have to give you some more money and get the caster plates. Another question, if i decide to cut/weld in the caster plates and later down the road go with the 6 inch lift and buy the control arms with the kit that are allready adjusted to correct caster, would the caster adjustment plates be o.k. or will they need to be removed? I would think that it would just allow me more options in the caster.

Concrete, I think we went over this before but did you check your caster correction bushings to see if they were installed correctly?

Yes, hoser i did, and they are in correctly. Everything is correct except my caster. I realize i need to get the plates from Christo. But i do have the stink bug stance, and need to level it out. I just purchased the spacers, so i guess my handling will be even worse, fawk!

Don't our LCs come with a tad bit of stink bug stance (SBS) from the factory?

Concrete, as a FYI, I added 1/2" spacers to reduce the SBS and now my caster is -0.1 deg!! I need to do something as well because she's squirly all over the place.

i'm with you bro. Plus the new TRUXS MTRs follow every nook and craney in the road. I won't let my friends drive it now.

Slightly off topic...

Would using OME heavy in the front with medium in the rear decrease the stinkbug stance if you didn't have any additional weight (ARB, winch, etc) in the front?

I believe the stance would be leveled out but the OME "Heavies" are higher rated springs. This would make your ride more harsh among other things.

I've heard that but have also talked to a few folks running heavies without accessories and claim the ride is great.

I must've lucked out. I'm runnin' "J"'s w/ the Mr. Gasket spacers, Arb bar with a winch and CC bushings and while it is certainly no sports car I think it handles okay. My wife drives it most of the time and she never complains.

I will eventually have new control arms, but, they are cost prohibitive at this time. Not to say they're too much, I just can't afford'em.

I believe Rogue was running J springs up front to level out his ride.

I'm just planning on buying lot's of stuff to stick on the back to weigh it down. :D

Perception of ride quality is a very personal thing. What is fact though, is that we have never had someone complain when their truck's caster was fixed with either bushings arms or plates.

PS, picked the plates up today. Now just have round up all the harware.

So in your opinion, will heavies up front without accessories yield a undiserably rough ride?

Way back when in 97 or so when I lifted my first 80 I had heavies on the front before the my ARB bumper arrived. Did not like it one bit. My personal opinion is that if you don't apply the OME springs correctly in terms of loading them, they are not as nice as they should be. Just my 2c

I personally like the SBS because once you load it up with all your junk, it levels out. Nothing worse than a sagging rear end, IMHO!

Christo - I thought about it and will probably go with 4" coils and your caster plates. Are the coils done yet?

Oh, I guess I gotta punch out my OME caster bushes now and put real Toyota ones back in...

True, ride quality is a matter of personal taste. My cars' spring rates are anwhere between 20-100% stiffer than stock. But it's not just about ride harshness. Other effects of mix-n-matching springs or installing "heavy" rate springs up front:

1) Possible reduced articulation
2) Increased understeer
3) Possible increased vehicle pitching motion. Vehicle chassis have a natural frequency that must run in harmony with the spring rates. The relative front and rear spring rates have an effect on a vehicle's pitching motion. It can be best described like "riding a bronco." This can get very annoying.

I'm not saying you won't be happy with the Heavies up front. Just discussing possible downfalls.

I thought that any/all OME springs combo yielded the SBS? However, after riding in two J sprung vehicles, I find the ride quality to be very nice. Much nicer than my 850/860 combo. However, when the rear cargo area is fully loaded with camping gears then the ride finally becomes "nice". Otherwise, even with a med set of rear springs, the ride is too harsh for my taste. Of course, taste is purely subjective. I'd like to purhcase a set of J springs to see if the ride would improve a bit....some day.
