I'm thinking D'Animal is the right person for this:
Bought a used, little Stihl 009 for small trees around my 1 acre (most orange grove) home. Can only stop it by choking it. Is the repair to the kill switch difficult, and parts available if some need to be bought? Thanks.

D'animal will have a better answer but look over the wiring, magneto's are usually shut down by shorting the primary to ground, simple system, if you have a meter see where continuity to ground stops, could be a bad switch or could be a broken/loose terminal or wire.

Generally it is short to ground kill, and since there is hardly any amperage on the switch usually the wire broke or fell off the switch.

Here are the contacts.

The On/Off slide has a metal slider under it that contacts the is kill wire under the carburetor.

Thanks, D'Animal. I look forward to seeing just how long this 20 minute repair will take. :-) I'll say one thing, that little saw is pretty torquey. Is that even a word??
