Hey every one,

I need some help big time. I have a 98 Landcruiser and I decided to install indash DVD in it. Well every thing went well with the install and I used after market harness for it. After the install I heard a click and power went away. At this point there is no power in the wiring harness of the truck. I can connect the stereo with any where else and it has power but there is no power in the factory power harness. I checked all the Fuses and every thing is good. I am missing power in the factory harness. Stock radio is not working Factory AMP is not working all because of Loss of power in the harness. Can some one please help me. If its not the fuse where else could it be. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have a short somewhere and probably blew the fuse. Find short, fix, replace fuse.

Ok Guys,

The after market harness is working perfectly because if I connect the stereo with the lighter power it works fine. As for Fuses I checked all under the hood and under the steering wheel. All of them are fine. Does any one know if the factory AMP has a fuse in it. does the stereo power comes in from the amp. Every thing on the truck is working fine except the power in factory Harness. When I test the red power wire it shows no power.
Can any one help me with a wiring diagram?

Thanks

Come on Guys any help would be appreciated. Here are some more details..

The Fuse under the hood for Radio is working fine. All the fuses are working fine. I just tested every thing on the truck. Every thing has power and its working fine. I just dont have power in the Factory wiring harness for the stereo. There is no power.

Is there a relay in the middle of the wire between the hood and Dash?

Where else should I look?

Any help would be appreciated

Did you bypass OEM amp under the seat? The power from OEM harness comes thru the amp and you need to bypass some wiring under the seat. If you are using OEM amp then you need to use a remote activation to the OEM amp.

What year is your truck? I have 99 wiring manual in electronic version if that would help.

The stereo power does not come from the amp. Actually kinda opposite. The amp is "turned on" by the stereo using a remote wire...(usually blue)

If I recall, I think I had a similar problem when I originally swapped out my stereo. Now I have the Kenwood DDX8017 and it works perfectly with the factory amp.

There is no need to mess with any of the wiring under the seat if you are going to continue with using the factory amp. Here is what I did, and what I would recommend.

Run a heavier gauge red power wire to the battery with an inline fuse and connect to the constant power wire on your stereo harness. Connect this instead of the constant power feed from the aftermarket wire harness. Make sure to cap or tape up the constant power wire on the aftermarket harness so you don't short anything out.

There is another wire on the harness for the ignition that you should still be able to use through the aftermarket harness. This will allow the radio to only come on with the key.

Just for good measure, since you are already running a wire to the battery... Run a heavier gauge black wire to the ground point right next to the battery(battery negative cable connects right to the point). Use this wire as your ground instead of the one on the aftermarket harness. Don't forget to cap the one on the aftermarket harness.

You can run both these wires through the firewall up above where the left footrest is.

It worked for me and I would highly recommend it.:)

Hopefully, this will fix your problem. But, if it is still not working, then we will proceed from there. I would recommend people do this even it it did work with the aftermarket harness. Using both these "direct" feeds should make your system work and makes it a lot less likely for you to fry any of the LCs factory wiring.

Thanks a bunch for the advise. I actualy did the exact same thing yesterday but I was trying to find out the where the short happened. Every thing is working fine but I just wish I could figure out what caused the issue and why the harness have no power.

Like longhorn said, run a seperate heavy power wire that is fused to the cd player. The stock does not supply enough power especially in your case with a DVD player. This should take care of your problem. I ran 10 to mine and that is overkill. 12 or 14ga should be sufficient.

i have a 2000...if the 2 stock amp connectors are not hooked up to the amp you will not get power to the harness going to the stereo.
