Guys,

The OEM stereo in my truck is awful. I replaced speakers wit the polks that were recommended years ago. The audio is still really bad. I am ot into car audio, so I want something reasonable that sounds good. I don't want a sub box. Any thoughtson head unit, amp and sub woofer. I haven't installed a stereo in 25 years so, plug and play is preferred.

What exact factory system does your 100 have?

I don't know. The speakers were jbl.

You should be able to get a plug and play from any vendor. The Cruiser is not that tough to replace the head unit. You should also be able to get a factory adapter to the factory wiring harness so you don't have to hack things up. Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras has great tech advice and they sell a lot of different radios. You can choose a double DIN or you can go to a single din and add a pocket below or add a CB below like the Cobra 18WX.

Factory Navi? Sounds like you have the factory JBL system? Pick a nice Double din HU add a 5 channel amp and put a 6.5" sub in the factory location. 90% PNP What's your budget?

No nav.

My budget is unknown. I just want to spend least amount. I liked the Bose in my gs430 and miata. Everyone says they are crap, but I like a lot. I do like a knob rather than button. I am most afraid of wiring amp and sub woofer. Stereo install seems easy enough.

Here is a pic of current setup.

Good idea. I was thinking double DIN, but DIN plus CB would work.

So, is that cassette adapter for an iPOD? Do you have a bluetooth phone? The amp and speaker part is actually very easy.

Good point. I do want Bluetooth and iPod capability.

I just had this unit installed in my STI about 2 weeks ago. It sounds great, the bluetooth hands free works well, the GPS is good, connects to my ipod, works with my on-wheel volume buttons, and it has a real dial to turn for volume. I'd buy one for my 2003 100 series but the guy at the stereo store said there is no way to install it because of the navi with integrated heat/AC controlls :(

I have this Head Unit. Its awesome. OP, check out my build thread.

I like this a lot, nbut it seems much nicer than I need are there any plain Jain head units that are good. I don't need any video or nav

I was looking at that one earlier. That looks good. Any thoughts on connecting an amp and subwoofer inside the OEM positions.

Check out the Kenwood headunits with built in Garmin Navigation as well. I currently have a Pioneer AVIC unit that is old now and I don't really like it. I'm sure the newer Pioneer models are much nicer now but I paid $1000 for mine when I bought it and I've never been completely happy with it. I really like Garmin navigation products in general so I think this is a big plus for Kenwood if you want built in NAV in a headunit.

FWIW, the kenwood i have (ddx616) sounds fine, but the ipod integration is only so so, plus the UI is lackluster. i had initial problems with bluetooth connectivity, which was solved eventually with a flash update. all was OK for a while, but then more problems after the latest iphone OS update, and now those problems persist. i am planning to switch out to a pioneer avic sometime soon, but i read on the nets that pioneer is also having problems since the latest iphone OS update. after they solve their problems i think the pioneer will be a better solution overall for iphone users.

i guess my main point is, if bluetooth is important (it should be, its sweet and a great safety factor when it works), then kenwood has been disappointing.

Is there a HU somewhere in between the AVIC DDX418 and X930BT? I'd like bluetooth capability but don't really want built in Nav (google nav is great on my phone!).

Fuzz..... I have been entertaining the idea of this one...

It is an older model with built-in bluetooth and has really good reviews. I don't need the navigation or a dvd player. I just want to be able to play my iPhone music and answer my phone in there. Plus, this one is more in my price range.
