Steering wheel lock? (1 Viewer)

I have a 2001 Land Cruiser, and the steering wheel lock mechanism has randomly engaged a couple of times while driving. The only way I could get it to release was by forcefully cranking the wheel.


From what I’ve read, this could be related to a worn ignition cylinder, a faulty key/lock alignment, or an issue with the steering column components that control the lock pin. I’m also wondering if a bad ignition switch or damaged wiring could cause it to engage when it shouldn’t.


Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what was the fix?

well, today as my wife is leaving, she complains that she turns the key and nothing happens. I go out to see, and it seems like the ignition or tumbler has borken off in the "off" position. Turning the key does nothing, cant even get accessory power. I now have to tow it in to my mechanics for him to look at it

Got the Christmas tree fixed, and steering wheel still locks when driving. Toyota hit me with “theres alot of issues, we cant pinpoint the problem” does anyone have any suggestions?

LC 100 2001 300,005k steering wheel locked while driving. Only going about 20mph (turning right). Skidded to a stop in the neighbor's yard. Was able to unlock the steering after a few start/stop with the ignition. Would have been extremely bad at highway speeds. Replaced Lock Cylinder Tube Bracket at shop.
