I’ve got my brake/abs yanked out at the moment, and while I’ve got the easy access, I figure I might as well try to work on the little friction hum I hear coming from my steering shaft every so often.

I was trying to find posts/video/youtube about fixing this issue but couldn’t find anything due to all the other videos about steering repairs and whatnot. Anyone diagnosed/repaired this issue? It’s not really a critical fix, I don’t think, as I don’t feel any excessive play in the steering shaft, but it does sound like something could use a bit of grease. Does anyone know the grease points for the steering shaft?

I had a squeak when turning the steering wheel. Usually after it rained or on the first startup of the morning. Squeaking would stop after driving a few minutes. After a week or two of hunting I discovered it was inside the engine bay where the steering shaft goes through a rubber seal in the firewall. I put a dab of grease on the rubber seal and no more squeak.
I'm not sure where your hum is coming from but that's one place to look.

That’s consistent with what I’ve got. I’ll give it a shot and see. Thanks!

@Kernal, there's a Toyota grease kit especially for that. Let me look for it and I'll post up a picture and part number.
