When you have the engine running, tires pointed straight, all tires on the ground turn your wheel left to right about 35 to 45 degrees and measure how much off static center line the shaft moves as it goes thru the firewall.

Didn't get around to this this weekend unfortunately. (needed a helper and I didn't want to try my helper too much)

I did however get around to adjusting the steering box. I tightened it about a 1/8 to 1/4 turn and it made a world of difference. The slop is about half what it was and the steering feels much better now, almost tight now. Hopefully my box won't wear faster now... but only time will tell.

Define "slop" and tell me how you measure it and under what conditions.

I've got slop to spare, if anyone is in the market(1.5"+++). think the power steering gear is out, at least thats what the tire shop who fixed my muddy bead said. feels bad enough to be believable though.
