i have a '71 FJ40 with dimmer switch on floor and ignition on dash. I would like to swap to newer column with dimmer on the column and ignition switch on column as well. Will a newer column from a FJ40 or possibly a Toyota pickup swap easily?

Anything is possible, but its not plug and play

Beat me too it.

Anything is possible. But plan on more than a column. Steering shaft that steering wheel attaches to is part of the steering box. Wiring will need to be modified. I plan on updating my 65 FJ45. Will install a 9/72+ steering box pedestal and later steering bolt. Column will be 9/72-7/80 Or 8/80-9/83.

If you can find a column out of a late model 60 series, or even rarer late model 40's will have a tilt column.

I know of no tilt column ever factory installed on a 40 series. North America and a few other LHD markets had a collapsible steering column 8/80+. Have never seen on installed on a RHD. Even Australia's LX 40 series had a rigid one piece column.

I thought for sure my '81 had a tilt, probably not.
