New install of the OME 2.5 and an alignment was straight forward. Ran the rig to Santa Barbara this weekend, and noticed a slight bit of slop in the steering. All is well under the floorboards, so I'm wondering if anyone knows the proper setting for the steering box. How much tension does the screw take? My Clymers manual is weak in this part of the instruction.

Much Thanks.

FYI... I finally cleared my message box, so please resend any messages if you would.

Did you install the caster correction bushings? If not that slop is more than likely the effect of positive caster. Install the bushings and you're in. If you did install the caster correction bushings I can look in my SM after work and scan it for you tomorrow.

Yup... wanted to go all ligit on this. OME bushings installed. Thanks for the research upfront!

fyi - wondering if they may have added a little too much toe in? Seems a little over steered, but it may be my imagination.

Might have them check it again.

By oversteered do you mean twitchy? If so you probably have too much toe out. Toe in will make it more stable at the expense of tire wear. You don't have the alignment read out do you?

Also as far as the steering box goes there is a good post by ElJefe on how to adjust it. Be very careful though. I may or may not have trashed my box by overtightening it. Either way I'm in the market for a new box.

You might consider putting the year and mileage of your truck in your sig line so people can more accurately respond to your questions. I would doubt that your issue is the steering box, more likely alignment as suggested. I sure wouldn't mess with the box until I chased every other possibility first.

Point taken... 1996 FJ80. I'll put that into my signature. I'll go about the double check on the readings (print out) as soon as I get outa my Veal Cube here.

Thanks!
