Never owned a 40 series, actually my 73 is the first cruiser I could affort. But the first 40-series (don't know the exact type anymore) I saw, back in the 60/70-ies made me fall in love with the Landcruiser.
And yes, you're right they are purpose build....;)
Every time I went wheeling with a mixed group, most of the time we were wrenching it was not on a cruiser.

Nice old truck, makes me want to sell my 75 and get one (almost)

Nice.. don't you wonder why they parked it in the first place?

I don't know if you can but park it in a secure place or make sure you don't let it be an easy target for theft.. Congrats!

The PO parked it under his shed because he lost the key to the fuel cap. I don't know if it's original but mine has a locking fuel cap that uses the same key as the ignition. I found the key inside the ash tray under a bunch of garbage. I'm headed this weekend to get me a new Master cylinder for the brakes & clutch and a new slave cylinder as well. Once i get it moving, its destine for my shop.:steer::clap:

It's been almost a year since i got my truck and i thought i'd give ya'll an update. I got a nice new title from my County Tax Assessor, very easy to do by the way. The insurance on the other hand has been a pain. Most of the companies i have talked to had no idea how to insure her, being they had no record of her kind ever being imported. So i ended up going with a collector car insurance company, Grundy to be exact. Very nice people, $35,000 worth of insurance for $300 per year, with certain limits.

I have been working of trying to get her ready for the DMV inspection, installing turn signals, lights, horn, stuff like that. I purchased new aftermarket turn signals, but i don't think i am going to use them. They are nice but the push connectors are the wrong size and i hate to do a butcher job to make them fit. So i am going to reuse the original turn signal bodies and try and find good shape original lens. I just like the idea of being able to read "Toyota" on a raised stamp on the plastic lens as opposed to nothing on them.

She runs great, very smooth. Trans & brakes work fine thanks to new M/C. There is alot of noise and rattling coming from the passenger door. A dry gasket isnt letting the door seat properly, so it shakes against the striker. I have made a deal with my local bodyman to paint the bezel & roof top white to get it back to somewhat original shape. I might even let him repair that run in the cab paint, then buff out the truck ... as long as the paint is thick enough... i'll leave that to him, he's the expert.

I'm taking my time, trying not to rush into replacing a lot of stuff at once, then get pulled off for an extended period of time, and loose parts. My deadline is the end of March this year to have it inspected, licensed and roadworthy.

sweet post/truck/replys very cool, love the tires too!

If that were mine I would get a custom tag that says "RAT NEST" due the the first fire up and tailpipe. Those rats probably helped keep moisture out of the back side due to all that crap!!!

RAT NEST!!!!

fbs,

Happy new year to you and the truck. I am pleased to hear from you and learn about the good service you are receiving from your find.

Your good fortune with this find gives me hope that someday a similar opportunity will present itself to me. Again, thanks!

I know we have bantered back and forth a bit in regards to updates, but.....

How about some pics of the truck out of the barn and in her new environs?

Rick
