Now to get them on something not quite so flat...

Special thanks to Ivan80 and Dirk Diggler! Good to meet you both! Thanks for the suggestions/ideas/company. Now to find a few more people for an Omaha area TLCA chapter...

Thanks again!

You're going to have to drive 'em a long way for that , Cornhusker. ;p

Cool, since it's all 80's I won't move it to chat . . . . . Yet!

Add some technical content!

Thanks Romer!

We had our first "meeting" last night and I must say that it was very helpful to actually see some of the products in person, rather than read about them.

Grench has a heavy OME lift with an ARB bumper, 12K warn, and dual battery setup. That is quite a load and I can now see why the heavy suspension is a must for that set up. He also had Hanna sliders and a Slee rear bumper. It wasa heavy truck and really looked awesome.

Mine has a Medium OME lift with front trim packers and no bumpers. My front sat about a half inch taller up front, but there is no way the medium springs could handle the load of a heavy bumper, winch, and dual batteries. Prior to seeing this, I thought the mediums could handle it. I was wrong.

It was our first meeting and I would like to invite any Omaha area Toyota owner (4x4, of course) to PM one us if you are interested in coming and talking tech and organizing trail runs.

Sorry about the lack of technical content in the intial email. It was late and I wanted to get the picture up as I'd promised to Dirk Diggler and Ivan80.

We went through what mods & issues we have or have had with our trucks. At one point we even had out the motorized tape measure that my inlaws gave me.

We started with my grey '96. I'm in the midst of a dual battery install. The fun/problem is that I'm not following anyone's design that I've seen before. I'm using two monster marine switches and OO tin coated copper marine cables to connect in the two D31A optimas. I plan to do a write up once I have everything figured out. Right now the problem is where do I put my ground bus... I'm going to give it a more direct path than a body ground since the system has a 2000+ amp potential current. Overkill? Yep. So?

Dirk Diggler has done a LOT of work with rustproofing. He's gotten a great stance from the OME medium lift & packers. His slide out drawer solution is pretty cool too.

Ivan80 has one of the best stereo installs I've ever seen on an 80. His color matched in door speakers give that finished look that is so hard to attain.

I had to brag about a few bits & things. I'm proud of my custom license plate mount that I put on the Slee bumper so I could have a cover on my spare. Oh, and I think I came up with a pretty cool solution to the gas cap cover missing spring issue that seems to plague some 80s. It involves a pocket knife and a timing belt from a '91 Ford Escort... If any of you have lost your spring let me know. If there is interst I'll do a brief write up on it. It should be funny anyway.

Thank you Romer for letting this exist in the tech, as the conversations we had were 90% or better about what fits where how.

Thank you!

A topic that came up with the three of us...

Someone mentioned that there were toyota branded offroad lights being sold somewhere. I was wanting to check them out but haven't been able to spot them. Does anyone know where/what these are?

Are they any good? I'm looking for something to mount inside my ARB winch bar, but I don't want to obstruct the radiator too much.

Thanks!

Hey, Isn't that soon to be my cruiser. ; ) Glad she is in good company. Hope I don't keep her form other cruisers too long, but she will have a step sister in Texas, that I hope she meets soon. See you on Saturday.

Yours is second from the left in the photo. But then, you knew that...

See you on Saturday! Enjoy the flight! Frontier has these cool video screens that link the the Jet's GPS system... The flight isn't long enough to bother buying the movie or TV services, but the GPS/speed readout is cool.
