Hey everyone. Had a good find to share with the community. So like many other 80 owners, I have been battling INOP/ intermittent speedometer issues for several years. The issue is the acid leaking from capacitors on the back of the circuit board of the speedometer, if you aren’t familiar. Every single one of these 80’s likely has this issue to some degree at this point. See below for what mine looked like at 172,000 miles:
I tried jumping the bad traces, but that only worked for a while and I’ve been looking for a source to have it professionally repaired.
After reaching out on a Facebook group, I found Relentless Motorsports TX.
Guy’s name is Josh and he specializes in keeping old Toyota electronics running. This guy is GOOD. If you’re looking to get a speedo repaired, I highly recommend him. Will probably send my ECU to him as well since they’re known to have similar corrosion issues from leaking capacitors.
