Does the spare tire need to be the exact same size, as all others? in an emergency situation? Would another size tire work?

I would think in an emergency (to get you out of harms way, say off the freeway so you don't get hit) an off size tire would work. But, with a locking differential, you wouldn't want to drive on hard serfaces or very far or very fast. It also depends on the size difference.

I would have to agree as on most cars the spare (donut) is smaller
???another question in spare tire size is how big a tire can you hang under a fj62? Im getting four 33x12.5 AT and am trying to figure out if i should buy a 5th one or just screw it and use my spare 31x10.5 MT ???

The safest way is to have all the same, But atleast with the same diameter.
how big a spare can you mount to the stock swing away carrier without wheel spacers? waas going to get my spare 33 put on a rim, but thought the better of it.
You can use a smaller tire within reason but keep in mind that on the front the steering will pull in the direction of the smaller tire. If you have a locker or L/S in the rear then you can really mess the locker by running a smaller tire on the rear. I'd reccomend a same size spare . That way you will always good to go. Just get a good used tire for 20.00.

We have a 33 on the stock swing-away on a 78 fj40. Works fine.
