Post up routes, dates, etc for anyone making the trek from the south and east US over to Ouray for HIH2014. Hopefully a few of us can meet up along the way and make at least some of the trip caravan style.

Below is the route I took last year, and it was a pretty easy drive. I20 over and up to I40 into Albuquerque then up to Ouray. Was about 13 hours day one and 5 hours day 2.

I'm open to traveling on pretty much any dates and any route within reason. 3 of us met in Albuquerque last year for the final leg in and I'd like to do something similar again this year.

As of right now it will be myself and the wife, but she's prob 50/50 as she's not really a camper. If she doesn't go will try and get a buddy to ride out w me.

Post up your routes and let's figure this out!

I'm in. Pretty sure I'll end up in Albuquerque Wednesday night and can meet to drive into Ouray early Thursday (or if anyone is up for a group dinner Wednesday). The route there is a little uncertain right now, but can either go out I10 to Fort Stockton, Tx, then 285 upto I40 into Albuquerque OR run upto Amarillo and catch I40 over to Albuquerque. Either way will be approx. a 13 hour first day drive for us. We're pretty familiar with the Fort Stockton route so I'm leaning towards that.

Driving in to Ouray as a group (of 3) was fun last year. It would be great if we could get a few more together.

Im up to meeting up with you guys at Amarillo since im just 35 minutes North of there. Only need to know when and ill be there. I guess its only up to setting a date. Route 1 on that map would be a little quicker actually since youd hit I40 a tad sooner. But if meeting up in Querque is best for everyone I understand and would do that no problem.

Route1 is how I went last year, was an easy (long) drive.

Be glad to meet up in Amarillo on the way out.

I'll plan my route soon, and see where it puts me. I'll be taking 28 days off work for a trip out west and 100s in the hills is right in the middle of it.

I'm interested. Probably meet up in Albq. We will be heading west on 287 to Amarillo. I'm really looking forward to this. We will also be staying in Colorado and New Mexico for 7-10 days after HIH. Definately headed to Crested Butte on Sunday to catch the last day of the arts fair, and do some mountain biking! Anyone is welcome.

Awesome. Wish I had done something like that after college.

A few of us have talked about it, and I'm pretty sure @engine_er is going.

I'm def down for a few days in Moab. Really want to see that territory.

@jonharis mentioned taking a 100% offroad route to Moab if I remember correctly?

We are planning to hit Moab-Oregon-Washington-north west territories.

28 days is awesome, we are doing 21 but I'm afraid if I'm within smelling distance of Alaska ill just keep driving north!

I would like to hit some of the easier trails in Moab or spend a few days in the swell either before or after the event.

Hi guys, I'm very interested in hitting Moab after HIH as well since haven't got a chance to be there yet!
Was thinking of making the trek to Cruise Moab next year but will most likely fly down to Brazil to see my family instead.
With that said, I got about 8 days to go around and am thinking of driving from CA to Grand Canyon, see some of the hot spots, do a couple hikes and camp.
From there head to Ouray. Then after HIH head to Moab.
Google shows 3hrs Ouray-Moab (150mi), is that accurate?
If so, my idea is to do the last trail on Sunday (most likely black bear), say all the good buys to those not going then head over.
That would give Monday and Tuesday to explore and get on the road Tuesday evening.
Inputs anyone?

What's the thought Moab vs the swell? There are also some really cool slot canyons for hikes and other activities south of the swell. Is it cooler there than Moab? Not too keen on sweating our butts off. Our tent don't have A/C!

How about white rim loop trail? Engineer posted some pics on the main tread. Amazing views everywhere! Not hardcore 4x4 but very beautiful!
