Thanks. I was thinking about checking some of the RV parts websites. Some motor homes and travel trailers use similar windows.

I was talking with 82cruiser couple weeks back and he mentioned something about a simple channel that JCWhitney sold that was very close and he thought might work. Maybe pm him to see, I know he is knee deep in head gasket shizz right now but he might have checked it out more than when I talked to him. I think he said he found it by talking to someone from mud....don't recall who he said.

Thanks, I'll PM him.

I've traded emails with the nice folks at CCOT and they gave me a few things to check on the window channel to see if they might sell something similar. I hope to take some measurements in the next couple of days and send them a few photos to see if they can match it up.

IIRC the older single fixed windows are the same size as the troopy sliding windows.

i have never fit one, so i might just be talking s***. but i did hold a fixed window up against my troopy, and it looked close enough to fit to me. but that's going back a couple of years now...

not sure why the SOR sliders would not fit in a troopy top. the windows (glass and seals) look totally different than the stock sliders, but the outside shape looks right.

i should check around to see if i can find replacement seals here in oz. my truck could do with a set as well.

Starting to work on the troopy hard top and removed one of the sliders to take measurments. According to SOR, their replacement slider windows measure 16" x 34 3/4" vs. the troopy window which measures 16 1/8 x 35 7/8". It would be helpful to have one of their units in hand to see if it were possible to make them work. The additional 1/8” in height may fit into the recessed opening. The extra space in length could potentially be filled with sheet metal.
Also looking into window manufacturers in the boating and RV industries for window quotes. So far, everything well exceeds what SOR charges. I asked SOR for their supplier but they would not give it out.
Does anyone know of any good window manufacturers they could recommend?

Does anyone in OZ know of replacement window options or gaskets down unda?

35 14/16"??? How about 35 7/8"... :p:p

The troopy window opening is 1/16" bigger on each side if you center the window in the opening. How about wrapping a piece of wire or plastic strip (hobby shops sell plastic in sizes that would work perfect) around the window to keep it centered in the opening. I'm pretty sure the gasket will still seal that small of a difference... Heck, the SOR window will probably work as is. Pull a window out of your 40 hard top and measure that opening; bet they are the same.

LOL!

My 40 hard top is a late model and has the push-out vent window which has different dimensions than the earlier models. Maybe I should just order one from SOR and test fit it. Your centering idea is a good one. Thanks Nick.

I bought my window channel from Toyota here in Oz, but it was not cheap. I think I paid nearly au$500 for all four windows on Patches.

I am surprised that the size of the side windows is different. I joined the rear quarter windows from a '75 top that I had because mine had rust. They fit perfectly.

Also, the driver's side sliding window on my FJ40 LX is from a wrecked troopy. The one my rig came with had been crushed in a bit by the PO when he scraped his garage door.

Remember that the sliding windows don't fit inside the opening as the pre-'76 glass windows do, but rather sit on the outside of the window channel. This could explain the sliders seeming larger, but I bet the opening itself is exactly the same.

Josh - I think and hope you're right as it would simplify the whole process. I hope to get a 40 window from a local buddy to try a test fit on the troopy top and will report back with findings.

Do you think the window channel is still available from Toyota in OZ? Even at $500 for a full set, it would be a lot less than new windows all around.

Thanks for the input.

I checked out an old FJ45 troopy at a wreckers yesterday that had some spare side window sliders that seemed to be in pretty good condition. I didn't get a price, but I reckon they would be pretty cheap. If you want me to check em out, find out prices, whatever, let me know.

That said, if sliders from a 40 will fit a troopy, then my guess is that it would be a hell of a lot cheaper going down that path!

Cheers,

Matt

Blew the dust off the troopy hard top and started stripping it down for an overhaul. Back to windows!

Has anyone found anything within the last 10 months? I am trying to collect a variety of 40 hard top windows to determine what will fit, if anything.

I have talked to a variety of boat and RV window companies, but none are willing to make any custom sliders for less than $500+ per window.

Does anyone have part numbers for the OEM gaskets for the window sliders?

Thanks!

I was able to install a '76 style hard top window into the troopy hard top window opening.

Next step is to order a set of SOR sliders to see if they will fit. SOR says they will not fit properly and will be too loose based on their measurements, but maybe a little fab work will do the trick. We'll see...

I've got some Bailey channel on order from Australia. It's supposed to be the correct stuff. I should know in another week or two.

I was wondering if you ever got around to trying out the SOR FJ40 windows in your troopy?

I have ordered some in error thinking they were the same size and now worried they do not fit.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Any word on the Troopy bailey channel for the side windows?
