I had to order some parts for the 73 from Japan and for giggles figured I would see if the Big oil filters that are NLA in the US parts system were still available from Japan. The answer is a resounding "yes". These came today.

They are not cheap and shipping is spendy, but if a group ordered several, the cost per filter could be reasonable.

Source I used is Amayama. Website is http://www.amayama.com/

Nice find! Being less of a purist but appreciating the extra oil volume the big filter offers, I normally just get the Napa Gold 1773 or Wix 51773 affectionately known as "the dump truck filter."

Understood. I was ordering some small stuff that was going to be less than the shipping from Japan. Figured the worst that would happen was a couple more of the small filters. I was pleasantly surprised and surprised how well packed everything was.

@roadstr6 - that filter sounds interesting, is it significantly larger than the Napa gold 155x(can't remember the number)? I presume id have to top it off a bit more if I go to the dump truck beast of a filter?

@elkaholic - hidden oem finds are always a nice score considering the NLA momentum. Might suggest u share your find with the wider audience/community... Not sure where though.

The big filter will hold about a quart more oil. It's a bucket in comparison.

Also the CarQuest 85773 is the same big filter. All are made by WIX and badged according to the retailer who's selling them.

CruiserDan has these in stock.

I did not know that  :bang: Had understood they were unobtanium in the US parts system.

See, an old dawg can learn new tricks .... :grinpimp:

Oh no, they are discontinued for the US market, but CDan and I have the largest collections of them.

His are for sale to the right buyer.

Mine are for my own personal collection:

Ahhh .... so I was not completely insane, only partially so

So I guess the guy I met on the beach in Aruba was correct in that the filters are still available....just not in the US.

Yes....

I use the Mobil1 M1-301 which is huge. If it was any bigger it would not fit. Is the 20004 larger than the M1-301?
