I have a 77 fj40 with a rebuilt motor with about 1000 miles on it. Saturday we were running around on some trails(easy) when the sound appeared. What would make my cruiser suddenly develop a funny Jetson like sound?

Well, after doing my best pursed-lips imitation of what the Jetsons' car sounds like, I'm going to guess a bad water pump bearing.

Some more information would be helpful though. Like is it coming from the engine bay (and where)? Or is it coming from the rear axle? There are a lot of possibilities, but you're really the only person that can help narrow them down for us.

locked up fan clutch?

I switched out the water pump and the alternator and it is still sounding funny:hhmm:

oh yeah the classic jetson sound after a rebuild. Its definately the fetzer valve. Its all ball bearings these days and if you dont replace the d9 modulator the whole thing could blow.

fletch. hehehehe

Did you use spacely sprockets during the rebuild.
WARNING. Failing to use spacely sprockets can cause the agrafobicle bolt to work loose causing the above mentioned noise:D

loose nut behind the wheel?

overload dump valve on the flux core capacitor hung in the open position.......

30W ball bearings to be exact.:D

Timing Gears

did you find out what it was yet?

If you have one, and no one has said it yet, its probably your air pump or in your EGR system.

Get a piece of hose and put it up to your ear and use that to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Careful where you stick it while the motor is running.

Later,
