A friend has an Oct-'95 80 series and wants to know what would be good sound gear to install. Listens to Zep, Tool, etc. Has the stocker in there and is going to replace the deck and all speakers.
Post up some suggestions and or what you are using please!
Im running diamond audio components front and rear. Two 2" tweeters mounted under the stock dash vents for the center channel for the surround sound. Image dynamics 8" subs. JL Audio amps mounted where the factory sub was. Kenwood KDC X979 receiver. Ill try to get some pics if you are interested. Its a SQ setup and sounds fantastic. Some of the equipment is kind of $$ though so its not the cheapest route.
Poser,
Depends on the cashola. I have an eclipse head and cd changer, running MB Quart seperates in front and MQ Quart speakers in stock locations with Kicker Amp and Kicker sub. Sounds nice. I listen to everything from metal to opera and symphony, except for country because it sucks.
Sounds like we all have similar gear. 5 1/4" MB Quart components up front, Infinity 4" kappa in back doors, Kenwood 879 in the dash, 5 Channel Kenwood amp stuffed behind the back panel where the factory sub was. I have 2 different boxes I use depending on space requirements, a small box with a Kicker solobaric 10" and a bigger slot ported box with an mtx 5500 in it. Sounds good, but retail is around $1500+ what's the budget?
Started by just replacing speakers.....(Eclipse, may upgrade to components later), wanted a stock look, not so much important anymore....
Just installed an Alpine head unit today, powering the Ecilpses...Alpine 1-Channel going in hopefully tomorrow, powering a dual voice-coil Alpine S Type 12 in a Q-Logic box......
I'm in the process of upgrading the system too, started with the deck a few months ago now I"m waiting for summer to come so I can make some money to buy speakers. I'm thinking of going pioneers all around or IF I feel like I want to really drop some change put some focal 4'' in the front and mayb 6 1/2 in the rear. Start with a deck, find something that can play mp3 cds (preference) and has the option for sub input/output, the deck makes the stock system sound much much clearer. I'm running only the two stocker 6.5's that come from the rear.
I went with the Eclipse HU w/ mp3 capabilities, and Memphis speakers front and rear doors. Their midrange have amazing tight mid-bass and are very impressive with the advanced processor of the Eclipse.
Still cannot decide what do to for the rear and low end. Thinking about scrapping ideas of a custom box and just go with a couple 6x9's. With as big as the inside of the truck is this helps act like a big box for what ever speakers you go with.
Nope, never shut it down even in the summer, half the heat sinks end up right where the factory sub slots are cut, so good for air flow. I also had to remove the side pocket only (kept the door), so I can take that off also to help cool, because that's where the other heat sinks are, it's a pretty big amp, works out nicely.
