Welcome to the madness.

Check body rust and bondo with a magnet. Have a look at the underside, especially the frame.

Check engine idle and exhaust smoke.

What year is the truck?

In 2019 I drove a Lhd 1985 BJ70 to Alaska.
Check fluid levels, monitor gauges for heat, check all four hubs for heat by hand whenever you can until you're certain that brake calipers and wheel bearings are OK.
Other than that, shut off the music and enjoy the sound of your tractor engine.
