In the process of installing my rear bumper today/this weekend. Came to a snag when I found that A- I'm missing some bolts and B- the bolt holes I need to use are off-center from the hole they're in.

I tried a 12mmx1.25TP and it just slides in. I also tried an old frame bolt that held on recovery points, and while it'll turn once or twice, seems it's still too big. Maybe a 13mm is what I need?

These bolts will hold a bracket to the frame, and then the wings of the bumper will bolt to this bracket. They're on the bottom edge of the frame, way toward the back behind the rear wheel. As of now, I have no clue how I'm going to turn a bolt into these holes without using my dremel to open them up more.

Thoughts?

M14 x 1.50 x 45mm is the bolt size. But it does look like the capture nuts inside the frame have moved. Those holes should line up!

Thanks to you both. Can confirm it should be a 14x 1.5. I was able to get one bolt threaded but the threads on one of the holes are boogered. Figures the biggest tap I have is a 12mm.

@suprarx7nut Thanks for mentioning, glad it's not just my truck being tweaked or me being an idiot. Both are still possible, but at least to a lesser extent than I'd have thought without you corroborating

So, to McM+C for bolts and hopefully a local hardware store will carry the tap.

Checkout Belmetric ( Metric Hardware, Metric Fasteners, Metric Bolts, Metric Nuts & Time-Sert Thread Repair ) instead. They have fancy zinc-plated, class 10.9 metric bolts in just about every size imaginable. They also have M14 x 1.5 taps to help cleanup those boogered threads in your capture nuts.

Well shoot. I just placed mine with McM+M. Next time I'll give these guys a look. Thanks for the info

Here's what I ended up with:

The M10 bolts are for connecting the wings to the brackets that the M14 bolts hold to the frame. I bought wider washers for the 14s to account for the extra space I cut.

A new tap will be ready for pick up tomorrow afternoon. Hardware is scheduled to be here Tuesday but they're somewhat local.

+1 for Bel-Metric. I buy from them frequently. Great company.

FWIW- Use ANTI-SEIZE

Those Fn'g captive nuts inside the frame ends never seem to be lined up just right. Then with all the junk up there- dirt & rust, its real easy to strip on the way out and cross thread on the way back in, especially when your mounting plate connected to rear bumper isn't perfectly lined up just right. I've tried chasing them with a M14 tap and still buggered new bolts. My bumper came with M14 bolts and one side worked the other was a challenge because the captive nuts were offset. IMO oem bolts seem to work best here. The M14 frame bolts Toyota uses have a tapered cutting/cleaning thread at the end- this helps center get thread started on the right path.

There are two lengths of bolt that work, the shorter version is what you want for mounting the aftermarket bumper to the existing frame captive nuts

If you still use the tow hook, that calls for a longer shouldered bolt-

Also be careful when retaping the captive nuts, go very little at a time, because it's not that hard to break their spot welds off (sometimes), especially that there is just a twisting force with the tap, and no pulling force with it - like it is with a bolt.

Hey I was curious if you knew the pn for the drivers side frame bolt, the one without the tow hook. The I have pictured the two you mentioned plus one other shorter one. I have an 06 LX with the factory tow package.

The bolt I’m looking for secures the rear drivers side tie down (51964-60040) to the frame as well as my hitch receiver if that helps.
