I've been doing a bunch of reading of old posts, and it sounds like the diodes that fool the alternator into a higher voltage to charge AGM batteries don't work on the 16+. Has anyone found an alternative to keep AGM batteries fully charged (other than manually topping them up with a specialty charger)? If so, what are you doing?

the best way to do this is to use a secondary battery tray with a regular battery ( use the secondary battery location as the main/starting battery) and a bcdc 1240 or similar to charge an AGM group 31 battery in the main battery location (this battery would be the aux battery). Basically the alternator is hooked directly to the secondary battery location and the BCDC is providing the proper voltage to charge the AGM battery.

So use a standard flooded acid battery as the starting battery and just use the AGM as the auxiliary, with the Redarc BCDC regulating the charge on the AGM? Seems like a good approach. I already have both AGM batteries, BCDC, SBI, etc from my last build. I was hoping to keep both batteries AGM.

The only other way is to develop an ECU flash or tune, as it can be adjusted there. That's how it's done for the Tacoma.
I'm guessing nobody has bothered doing this for the land cruiser since it is such a tiny addressable market.

I also had an AGM battery left over that happened to fit the Slee 2nd battery tray, so Im using an AGM battery in the secondary location as the main battery until it dies then ill switch back to a normal flooded battery. So I say run the AGM till it dies.

What size lead acid battery will fit in the secondary "slee" tray and will have enough CCA to use as a main battery?

Twin 100ah lithium
200a Sealed, Brushless and Watercooled Alternator (Stock alternator will charge these though)
Charged direct (NO BCDC) at 200a (70a @ idle)
Can add another 200ah in the rear.

Ive setup cars with a welder (he was a trailer repairer), can ran van AC, induction cooktops, 3000w invertors etc. I might do a thread about some of our electrical setups later

I'd love to see how to use the stock 180amp alternator to charge 12v 100ah lifepo4 batteries and use those batteries as main and aux....just like you have here.
