How much of a difference will a few deg. make in respect to the handling? !

I don't think that there is any up side to having more than 3 degrees of caster. If there was, they would come from the factory like that. The down side of lower traction in turns is obvious.

Hey Keith,

For what it is worth, I would take the time to save your money and buy the new steering arms and do it right the first time. I have rushed projects in the past, trying to get out on the cheap, only to end up doing it for a second time the way I should have done it in the first place. You know what the parts cost, now you need to figure out what your time is worth and if you want to spend it doing it for a second time.

Just my .02

I hear ya.
However, its not like Im trying to mickey mouse a set of steering arms. They SHOULD work without going to that much caster IMO.
I keep going over the set up looking to see if I went wrong somewhere and I just dont see it.

Ill call Luke in a bit and see what he can tell me.
The price I got the 6 shooter set up for for the knuckles and arms, I can complain too much. It was a SCREAMIN DEAL.
Unfortunately though...its just gonna cost a bit more it seems.

Still looking for some dimensions on the clearance from ABOVE the spring pack to the bottom of the tie rod if anyone can gimme an idea that would help immensely!

I got mine mocked up yesterday. I've currently got 4x4 labs high-steer kit with 1-tons. It's super beefy, maybe too much. Mine's different from 71-cruiser's. Both arms are in the front. It drags on the top of the springs at droop. I doubt it could reach the frame under load, but maybe. I'm probably going to swap it out with another setup I've got that uses fzj80 rods and ends and shorter steering arms.

It looks like I'm going to need to take at least one leaf out of my fj55 springs too. :(

Ed,
What is the other system that you have?
Im curious as to what the "rise" is on that system on the steering arms. The TG arms are 1 3/4 rise. I checked rusty TLC rig last night and his was at 2 in with the allpro set up.

BTW, I found a vendor that sells the weld in threaded inserts for the FJ80 rod ends if you havent gotten tie rod and drag link yet...
Although it sounds as if you have?
If you ditch the 4x4 labs set up, lemme know if you wanna sell it. Might be interested.

Not 100% sure but the arms are very similar to the All Pro. Maybe an earlier version without the relief cut outs:

The only thing I like more about the 4x4 labs setup is the longer arms, but they put the tie rod pretty far forward, and have the potential to put a lot of torque on the steering arm studs. The one-ton TREs are way overkill. The drag link I've got, if that's what it's called, has an extra tube sleeved and welded over the 1-ton rod. I'm sure you could lift the whole front end off of it.

It's set up for fj60 steering, so you'd have to shorten it for your saginaw. Send me an offer in a PM and it's yours. Not exactly new, but in perfect condition.
