So what do you all keep your tools in?

Hi All:

I have a lockable, plastic storage box hard-mounted behind the front seats of my FJ40 for trail spares, tools, etc.

Since recovery gear needs to be easily accessible I have those bits in a nylon carry bag that I keep bungy-corded to the roll bar behind the driver's seat.

I just got my EOD stuff in. The bag quality isn't quite as good as some of the other MOLLE bags I have. The Grimlocks turned out to be MUCH smaller than I pictured. I may reorder the much larger ones.

I had the same feeling about the quality, but after using the bag this weekend at the range, and in the field, the EOD bag is a good solution to many of the items- gub, ammo, gub cleaning supplies, (or in the truck) for winch control, gloves, tow strap, tree saver, shackles, etc.... and all the gear that I carry in the truck. It is also durable- I had over 500rds of .45 AUTO in one bag no issues with poor quality seams/craftsmanship. I have found the EOD bag to be perfect to sectionalize and keep my gear organized in my 1650 Pelican case, plus the MOLLE systems gives endless options for lashing/securing gear. Where did you purchase the MOLLE gear that you are comparing the quality? Also, if you find larger Grimloc carabiners let me know, I like the smaller size, but could use a larger option.

I keep my fluids in a four gallon square plastic bucket. This is the perfect size to hold a gallon of antifreeze plus some more quart bottles of oil, ATF, brake fluid, etc. The square bucket packs better than a round bucket. The bucket will contain a leak from one of the fluid bottles, and it doubles as a drain pan/catch basin if I need to do a field repair.

I purchased a cheap vacuum sealer and using large bags I keep replacement parts like birfs, greased and ready to go in a sealed bag.

My plastic shipping boxes also serve for containment of fluid spills and as oil drain pans.

I like the vacuum sealing for containing messy parts. I've used regular kitchen plastic wrap.

I have a bunch of small heavy duty ziplock parts bags with label areas on them. I put small tools and parts into them and label them. As examples allen wrenches and small 1/4" sockets. I also have a few with small screws, nuts, and washers in them all labeled for size. I also use the bags when I'm doing repairs. I put parts in them and labels telling where they are from. I picked up the bags surplus, and so they are yellowed a bit but they still work.

I've packed tools and parts with shop rags to keep them from vibrating. When you need to do a repair, the shop rags are there. Oh well things rattle a bit after. The shop rags that come in the yellow cube boxes are nearly good enough to clean hands with and they can be washed a time or two. They go all crinkly after washing once, but they hold together. This packing in shop rags is a simple extension of using paper towels for packing up dishes and fragile stuff when moving. The paper towels can be used for cleaning at the new home.

I have been getting a few of these together and using them:
Bucket Boss 07004 Tool Roll, Bucketboss

I like them a lot and have been rethinking my own drawer set up because these just work better than the open mouth tool bags IMO. More compact, easier to stack.

Just ordered a "Custom Leathercraft 32Pkt Tool Roll Up 1173" and a "Bucket Boss 07004 Tool Roll" to compare side by side. I've been looking for a nice compact and organized solution for the main daily carried tools. I've disliked the mess that happens in the tool box. Whichever one gets the nod, I'm sure the other will find a happy home in another truck.

For my small bits and pieces that go with the BJ74 I went to Canadian Tire and got a plastic organizer. I'll post up pictures of it later.

Where did you purchase the MOLLE gear that you are comparing the quality? Also, if you find larger Grimloc carabiners let me know, I like the smaller size, but could use a larger option.
