On Monday I was in an accident. Was hit by a dump truck and pushed into a semi. I was finally able to have my truck moved to my buddy's shop at GAS in Woodstock today. This is the first time I've really been able to look it over.

The rear impact only looks to have damaged the bumper, hitch, gate and hatch. The tail lights and rear quarters on either side are perfect. The front is obviously effed. Grill, hood, radiator, condenser, front support... all trashed. Glass headlight on DS is ruined but PS is good. This is just what I can see without busting the hood open. Headers appear to be in good shape inside ( hooray..). I did drive the truck from the lane to shoulder after the collision and it didn't like it. Belts, fan, all messed up.

I'm going to assume it's toast. It's really a shame, but it did a great job protecting my dog and I inside. I'm still trying to figure out what's going to be happening next, but hopefully I can make use of the myriad new parts and upgrades the truck just had done. Has anyone gone through a buy-back and rebuild process? Does this truck even look worth it? Anyone looking to sell a 2000+ mostly stock LC I can build with this carcass?

Ga, I know u mentioned it in your other thread...since you are claiming against the trucker’s insurance, show all the receipts u have for what’s on the truck and then see what the buy back price is so u keep the truck (forgot what it’s actually called as it’s been a long time since I had to do it myself). After getting another truck and swapping things over, u can sell everything else that’s of value to recoup as much back afterwords. But u probably know all this since the first accident. Good luck and keep us posted.

@RyanStl @Roosevelt T Thanks guys. This is the second accident I've been in with the dog now, and the last one was in my beautiful LX just in July. If anything had happened to him, I wouldn't be able to string together a sentence here on the forums. I'm bummed about the truck for sure, but he's my best friend. I was able to get the trooper to let him sit in the back of the cruiser with air on while we waited for a tow in the Atlanta heat.

@craaaazzy That's what I've got planned. I feel like I got the shaft from my insurance co with the LX, but am hoping for the best with this one. I only had $2k in receipts for the LX and was given like $3-400 for them all. With this one, I've got many times more than that in just the 2 months I've owned it and reeaaallly hope I get taken care of a little better. The big bummer is I know I won't recoup the pretty large investment I made in the truck just in maintenance catch up and labor. Timing belt, WP, VC gaskets, alternator, full brakes and stainless lines, etc.

Very sorry to hear. All this week I’ve seen pics of either yours or a similar colored truck and loved the color.
frontal repair will require the most work, probably will be totaled because of the sheer cost of all the components.

The rear doesn’t look too bad, maybe looking at a little frame repair, hopefully any bending occurred past the body mounts. If the crossmember is bent, maybe replace with a bumper that already requires cutting the crossmember? Or at least cut and weld in some steel.

In other words, looks repairable, but is absolutley a question of how much insurance wants to pay, and wether you are ok being left with a vehicle that has a history which could hurt future resale value.

I'm deliberating on this now. If the truck would end up costing as much to fix as just buying another one, I don't know if I can justify that. As beautiful as I think the blue is (and rare), is it worth it to me to continue driving it when I could just buy a completely clean history'd truck? Hm, I don't know.

Ideally what I would be looking for is a 2000+ LC (Or LX with conventional suspension) with rough guts, clean belly, stock everything, and very up to date maintenance. I have enough salvageable parts from Gira to make a rough truck into a very very nice one. I feel that's likely the direction I'll be leaning.

If anyone has a truck like I described to sell, feel free to PM me. It might be a week or two before I'm officially in the market.

My son hit a boat prop in my 99 with 235 (now 250K Miles).

New OEM hood, bumper (plus paint), grill, emblem, headlights, marker lights (core and rad were okay)

Total was $5600 due to OE parts. State Farm paid it. Didn’t total it.

It’s the truck I know and has been maintained since 105K miles and 8 years.

I’d have a hard time passing up that blue 100.

Good luck!

I'd keep it if the numbers work. With what I'm putting into my 100 I'd take such a bath selling it, it's a 'keep forever' vehicle anyway, haha.

That comment is in regards to future resale based on the accident and such.

Plus it's an awesome color.

The problem when dealing with your own insurance is that if you start modding, you should be letting them know so they cover those mods in your policy (while raising you premium). With someone else’s insurance, you’ll have a better chance to get more money back but you’ll need to fight for it. Also, gather as many for sale listing showing value of the truck in similar condition. Don’t take their first or even second offer...their job is to give u as little as possible.

Glad you’re okay. That’s what’s important. Sorry about that beautiful 100.

it is a "total loss". it looks like around a $15,000.00 estimate front and rear.

That's one hell of a story, the hood shows it too. How was the boat?

Prop hit bumper, then grill, then hood. Boat was a total loss...kid was towing it to trade it for a $300 motor cycle...so

GA, I can use some of those panels if you decide to part it out. On the other hand if you let it go are you going to swap out the aftermarket parts? Do you have the stock wheels?

Glad you and mans best friend are okay. I've seen better looking rigs in the junkyard. She's gone. Good luck getting your dog to go bye bye. I could see it now...c'mon boy!!! we're going for a ride! dog: i'm good. see ya when you get back :steer:

I'll keep you posted. Original wheels were in VA and I just sold them last week. I do have the original spare, though.

Pfft, this guy goes to the office with me every day. He's ready to go when I put shoes on in the morning.

Don't forget this is a negotiation between you and insurance. Never settle on the amount they offer on a 100 series. Do your homework and get some comparisons like what it would cost to buy one from a toyota dealer.

You can't find a replacement for what blue book is considering the condition of yours. They wanted to offer me 15k on my 01 and I showed some ads what it would cost to replace. Settled at 19.5k .

Tell them a check for 17k and keep the wrecked 100. Stick to your guns and start high they know these trucks are always more than book value.

Good luck , and give thanks to that rig for keeping you all in one piece.

You think this would pull that much? I was honestly thinking $10K would be a stretch. I was only given $6k for my LX which was just as nice. The LC is a 2000, 245k. Generally perfect shape for an original vehicle. All maintenance, upgrades were done in the last 5000 miles.

Hearing about your best bud made me curious if you have heard of the dog seatbelts that are on the market? I use the Ruffwear Load-Up Harness but other people use the SleepyPod I think its called (or close to that) and they are both tested in crash tests using actual crash test dog dummies!
Each brand tends to work a bit better for different types, sizes and breeds of dog so maybe read reviews of them before committing. Mind has a loop that the seatbelt goes through to keep the dog safe, and others have a metal piece that clicks into the seatbelt receiver itself. Finally, I also use this with a "pet hammock" which is just a second row seat cover that attached to the first and second row headrests and makes a nice little pocket for the pup to relax without falling off the seat and getting stuck. It has cutouts to allow access to the seatbelts.

First two pics are examples from online, but the last one is my pup Piggy, AKA Notorious P.I.G., AKA Wiggle the Pit, at bottom enjoying her second-row throne.
