for those of you who are interested in a local snow run, might I suggest the forest trail FS165 from Placitas to Sandia Peak? At the top there's a nice parking lot and usually it's full of cars. These cars belong to folks who are tubing and sledding in the snow near by. After snow play and a bit of lunch, you can head back down the trail or drive around the mountain on I-40.
With the amount of snow that we've been getting lately, going uphill will be fun and challenging
Who knows, you may even pull out couple of stuck vehicles along the way. About half way up there is a nice picnic area but it's closed for the winter. However, you can park outside the gate and go inside and play in the snow.
Anyway, just an idea for folks who don't want to venture too far away from home.
