for those of you who are interested in a local snow run, might I suggest the forest trail FS165 from Placitas to Sandia Peak? At the top there's a nice parking lot and usually it's full of cars. These cars belong to folks who are tubing and sledding in the snow near by. After snow play and a bit of lunch, you can head back down the trail or drive around the mountain on I-40.

With the amount of snow that we've been getting lately, going uphill will be fun and challenging :D Who knows, you may even pull out couple of stuck vehicles along the way. About half way up there is a nice picnic area but it's closed for the winter. However, you can park outside the gate and go inside and play in the snow.

Anyway, just an idea for folks who don't want to venture too far away from home.

Do you have a date for this? I would like to go on February 6th if other people could make it or want to go. With the 40 running I want to learn how to wheel it, finally.

The 6th is good by me. In the past, they have closed the gate up top, I don't know for a fact if they've ever closed the road from the bottom or not? Either way there's plenty of stuff nearby. I'm in.

Hmm, that's interesting. We were there last Saturday and it was open.

It's probably open, I just mentioned that I have seen it closed before; especially when we get predicted heavy dumps of snowfall.

I'm a maybe. Talked to Dan today. he was asking about going for a run. I mentioned this day, and he said he would probably drive his GMC up. I will check up later to see how it is going.

I'd be interested in taking my 78 up also...

Just got back from snowboarding at Sandia. The gate was open at top, I the road looked plowed.

Is this run still a thought?
