I've been using the Donkey at least once per week and occasionally more. I have a light gray very rich smelling start that dissipates as soon as I start moving. Any subsequent starts throughout the day is clean. If I take her out the next day, the start is clear.
All filters are clean. Glow Plugs are less than 18 months old (12v). Compression is 405 on 1,2,4 and 399 on 3. It is a B motor with power steering and A/C mods.
Could advancing the injector pump a bit cure that? Or is it no big deal?

2 things to look at
-1,glows, new glows doesnt mean that the system is working properly, glow timer most likely, consider a manual glow switch, they rule
-2, air entering the fuel lines, most likely from the primer pump, replace with bosch unit, then purge the air

Thankfully, I have the manual switch, so the timing is up to me. Perhaps I need to count out a bit longer and see how that works, If it doesn't do the trick then I'll check the primer.
Thanks for the hints.
Aside from what I mentioned, Donkey likes to run. Got a few weeping points that look as though new plugs and gaskets should take care of and that's it.
Again, Thanks!

Have similar on my H, but I find that adding a few seconds more glow after starting really helps to clear it up.

So sorry for the late reply. I have adopted that suggestion with the desired results. I guess the old saw of haste makes waste sort of fits here - a bit.

My HZJ75 loves 2 glow cycles.
Turn the key on till the light goes out, then once again for a clean start up and idle.

I should probably get around to building a simple and adjustable glow controller to find the optimum glow combo..

wilson switch
I actually removed my Wilson switch because I can do basically the same thing using the ignition switch (no edic on my H) albeit through the controller.
Would be nice to dial in some settings to the controller though I thought.
