I need a center output T-case now...

I have an SM420, and want to get a dana 300...

I know I need an adapter...

What else do i need to know ? is there a certain spline count I need to make it work?

how about the output splines do they need to be a certain #

thanks for looking....

Mark

The adapter either replaces the mainshaft on the tranny or the input on the t-case. I got my adapter from Novak, and used the mainshaft replacement version since I was going to an atlas.

So the adapter will have the shaft I need, cool..

as for the output splines is there a minimum spline count you guys would use with 1-tons and a cheby 350?

I have a fairly light foot when it comes to the throttle by the way... I only stab it when I have to

It'll be a couple months though.. (need to source parts, and I'm anal)

Good to know, as it will only fail when you stab it.....

If you can at all swing it, I would just get an Atlas with 32 spline outputs front and rear, and be done with it.

Original cost of Dana 300, bearing kit, output upgrades, low range gear set, twin stick, and you are within a few hundred dollars of simply having a new transfer case assembly which is significantly stronger than even a modified 300.

:meh:

Ok Mr. devil on my shoulder......:)

Say i could get an Atlas 3.8 for a decent deal is there an adapter to a SM420? I checked AA and no -go

Edit: just scrolled up and saw Busta's post...

Busta, How low does your T-case hang with that set-up?

Novak is who I used as well:

On the 3.8 Atlas:

If it is the one that AA has listed, that is a LH drop, not RH, and does not have the HD outputs.... :meh:

Easy enough for them to switch, but it is going to cost more $$$ and if that is the direction you go, I would have them change the input on the Atlas as well to a 10 spline so that it slips right onto the 420 output shaft using the Novak adapter..

The lowest point on mine is even with the bottom of the frame rail.

Wow, I like that flat belly possibility... Thanks for the pics, Steve, and Busta!

The 3.8 I'm looking at is used, and the guy says it's passenger drop w/ 32 outputs.. has a 32 input as well, which I guess I'd have to change..

Have you made any kind of protection for that transfer case yet?

Not to hi jack this thread, is a built up 300 worth 700 dollars?:hhmm:

Define "built up"?

If it's rebuilt & equipped w/ either a 4:1 kit or a 32 spline output, I'd say yes. Stock rebuilt no way :D

Yes I think 32 spline for sure, not sure about the 4:1 kit, but will ask.

Thats Canuck also.

Steve,

Honestly, I haven't wheeled it yet to know.. I have fooled around in the area, and really like the 4:1 :grinpimp: I'm also digging the twin sticks.. I like how each stick is independent of each other.. pretty cool..

Skid plate was made and mounted this weekend, and the trac-bar will be done next weekend. Front mount will be on the skid plate.

My first real wheeling trip is going to be Rubithon next month.. Yes I will do a shake down run once it's all said and done.. Still have to fix a couple small things that popped up..

How do you like it?

Hijack--

Nice going Mark, looking forward to seeing it.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using an SM420 vs SM465 when coupled to an Atlas.? Is one easier to adapt? I really like this short adapter you used.

I have a really clean 32 spline SM465, and am digging the idea of an Atlas. Unclear if I'd do 4:1 or 5:1. I also have an SM420 with a recent rebuild that's running in the Cruiser now.

I was takin to Joaquin about a shake down run.
was thinking a BBQ @joe's ranch would do the trick...

like how I just volunteer to have events at other people's ranch :D

30 more days until Rubithon :bounce: :bounce:
