It is a mythical beast you seek...

You can change the electric throttle to cable throttle. Lots of write ups on it. 150tunes and Hotwire Auto do wiring harness work pretty cheap. That would be an amazing engine in an 80 series.

What's the advantage of the cable throttle? Seems the fly-by-wire would be easier to set up.

Just thinking it would make the swap easier. I was assuming the Fj80 has a cable throttle pedal that can be adapted, rather than trying to mount a GM pedal assembly under the dash. I’m not s big fan of drive by wire. I don’t like the pedal delays. Drives me crazy at times in my JKUR.

Anybody want to help me take a look at this? I have no experience evaluating an engine on a pallet. Guy says he has video of it running - describes the donor truck as "trashed" but not wrecked - not sure if that bodes well for the engine. I'd rather have a pristine truck that got rolled in a hail storm on the way to the mall  Another concern is they swapped the computer with some other guy - said it came out of his running truck and swapped it "for the mileage" So provenance on that isn't ideal.

I'd have to get some transmission work done or use it for a core exchange - that's probably a 4L60, but the adapter needs the 2WD version (output shaft swap, reluctor ring & sensor install).

Anybody need Silverado parts? Honestly, there's not much good on it ... accident then hail. Maybe transfer case, driveshafts, interior looks ok.

Nice!! I’m sure you can’t wait:steer:

That’s going to be awesome. Always considered building an FJ80 with an LS. Best of two worlds, for sure.

4 day weekend and I found 2 hours on Sunday afternoon to work on this. Oh well ... at least the exhaust manifolds came off with no drama. And the one bolt that was already broken came out with a pair of vice grips :bounce2:

Made some decent progress this weekend. Lots of new parts installed - cam, valve springs & seals, oil pump & sump, spark plugs (one of the old ones was loose & blowing by), windage tray.

Harmonic balancer is next, then oil pan, and turn it over to put the rest of the valve train back together.

Glad you are making good progress. Earlier I was beginning to think the Dems will have the internal combustion engine banned by the time you finish.

Yea, it's been busy around here.
And in the full scope of the project, I suspect this is the easy part.

Took the day off and finally got the engine out!

Now that’s a beast!

Got the drivetrain bolted up. Will be hanging it in the engine bay, bolting up the transmission crossmember, and figuring out what I'm doing with the engine mounts.

At the club meeting on Tuesday, we were discussing my difficulties finding an adapter to put the Toyota temp sensor onto the GM engine. The two sensors look very similar...

And an M12-1.5 nut will thread onto both of them. But the Toyota sensor won't thread into the GM hole. I think the threads in the box store nut are sloppy compared to the machined hole in the GM threads. I've tried some different adapters with no luck.

But I think maybe I can just use another GM sensor. My son and I did a little experiment last night - measured the resistance of each sensor in an ice bath, and a pot of boiling (198F at this altitude) water.

You can see that the response slope is quite a bit different. But in the region we're interested in, about 190Fto 195F, the readings should be pretty similar.

So I think if I use the GM sensor, the gauge will read a little lower then we're used to at normal operating temp. But should be about the same when things start heating up to the 200F range. And it looks like the factory gauge with the GM sensor should read higher sooner if it goes higher yet - not a bad thing in my opinion, given the notoriously sluggish response of the factory setup.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it with an OBD2 scanner until I'm comfortable with it ... and revisit the adapter issue later if it doesn't work out.

Did you do the temp gauge mod on your 80?

Figuring out my shifter situation. Got a bracket done for the shifter end of the trailblazer cable alot of guys use.
