I swear I’ve looked up and down here and on google for an answer other than make my own which is fine but wanted to see if any other thoughts. Definitely can’t find anyone selling this specific part.

Only have a pic of the metal retainer clip and the form seal below but after removing drive shafts during transmission/transfer case pull (a whole nother story coming soon…) I noticed the metal retainer was all bent and when I pulled the slip yoke apart the felt was torn in half and stuffed in.

I can’t find these anywhere so I’m guessing bend the metal retaining disc back straight and then cut a new felt ring to go under it?

Has anyone come up with another solution? Use a rubber boot of some sort?

Open to any and all ideas.

Learn something every day. After looking at the SOR diagram for the seal I realized that I can take that part off the shaft. Go figure. Pics below. Perfect. 2 on order!

Freezing the driveshaft may have helped, but boss wasn't happy with car parts in freezer ;)

Then she would really appreciate using her oven to bake paint or powder coat! I tried that, once ...

I just took from front driveshaft apart to do the u-joint's and noticed the felt coming out of the end. I thought something got lodged in there so I started to pull and now I am here looking for answers lol. I noticed on the SOR link that they sell a new cover boot/seal for $16 and used for $45. Does anyone know why they sell the used for more money? Also, is there a trick to getting on the new cover boot/seal? Thanks!

Probably, bc the OEM ones are better built and built to last. In the previous posts, just use a mallet and/block of wood. The 4 new seal covers I bought required a little expanding to fit over the ds.

I don’t know the reason for SOR pricing, but probably supply and demand driven. The SOR boots use a rubber seal, not felt. Putting them on the drive shafts was a PITA. I just slowly beat them on with a hammer and a wood block, using the old sleeves to match the lip at the end.
The new seals are extremely tight around the yokes, at least compared to the 50 year old felt.
