Well I waited too long and now I probably won't be able to get rock sliders shipped in time for this trip! Damn!
Probably won't need them as long as you take the easy lines and stay off Poughkepsie.

RCI has some in stock with powder coat flaking off the bottom of one piece.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can I reasonably spray over it with liquid paint and keep it from chipping away entirely?

I think the only real question is how much are they and do you care what they look like? Even powder coating gets bashed up... and they are kinda built for that right??

I say grab them if it's a good price, slap them on and abuse them to the point the chipping does not matter any more.....

If it's a faulty powder coat adhesion then it may continue to chip at least some. I would think perhaps not that much? Spraying over will get you temporary rust protection. If you were to get Schwifty and determined you could always (*gulp*) remove it and go for round two.

If your intention is to keep these sliders looking pristine, then I would pass on them. On the other hand, if your intention is to use them in the manner they are intended then it doesn't matter, as Justin said. Also, if your intention is to keep them looking pretty, then you don't need them in the first place.

Scrapes happen on metal when you go off road. I rattle can touch up spray the metal just to prevent rust. Black is the go to color. Save some money and get those sliders. I have saved money by buying bare metal sliders and spray can paint them, cause I know even the best powder coating will get scraped off sooner or later.
Use and abuse them, spray them ever once in a while. Better than body damage or a door that won't open or close. Under armor and side armor is necessary for off roading. It's always the rock you didn't see that does the damage.

Maybe the process of removing flaking powdercoat and sending it back isn't worth it to me to save $150. Powdercoat is built for it when it adheres properly. Scratches are different than layer adhesion.

My intention is to not buy a lemon to save $150 that I have to completely redo later on.

@pappy - would you mind cutting this off at #77 and move it to a new thread please? This camping thread is getting derailed with slider talk!
