Phil I see what your saying but that was not really that hard of a hit form the looks of the video
If you were to take a teeth rattling hit it would crush your rails
Also east coast wheeln is alot different than west coast, sliders around here tend to get worked over alot more just because of the terrain, not that it is harder it is just different and alot tighter were as the obsticle in your video had several different lines where here in the east alot of the time you only have 1 line maybe 2 at best so sometimes you can take a beating
I have DOM tube sliders and I have put dents in them from the hits they have taken
I guess it is all relative

Looks like they offer a kit for just the legs/cat protection for $200 plus freight. 4x Innovations: FJ80 Rock Slider Mounting Kit with Legs

This doesn't do me much good as I have plans for high clearance cats so that custom piece would be useless. The price is not bad though.

Hands down this is the cheapest way to have high quality sliders... no fuss no muss removable brackets ( brackets are an easy 10 hours of work if your fast with a lot of tools and a shop) and with all the DIY options.... I wish that kit was available when I got sliders.

Nuclearlemon:
Post pics of the marlins on your 80. What length did you get?

marlins or trail gears are cheap and easy. I did them and they work just mount them well.

I got these from Trail Gear for $150. Marlin was out of stock at the time.

4X Innovations About $200-250 or so
with the kick out and DOM tubing
Another good option

I have one more idea before I just build some standard boring looking sliders. Instead of tube running the length of the truck what about a 3/16" piece of steel, either 90 degree or bent to hug the rocker? Seems like I could tuck it pretty high, just not sure if 3/16" steel would support weight of the truck? I used 1/4" on my bumper but I think the weight of 1/4" would be pretty high.

trying to get something that looks like this?

If you ignore the rotating part, I think you'll end up where you're wanting to be. The difficult part is the shape of the tube. If I remember correctly the long side is 8", the two angle sides are 4" and the top is 2" - It's 4 seperate pieces welded together the whole length of the slider - kinda time consuming, but worth it in my mind. Alternative would be to have a shop w/ a break bend the 4-2-4 and that would save you two seams. Gives a nice smooth surface to slide on, and will take the weight of the truck. Some people have commented on the weight, but I believe they are actually lighter than those sliders that have a 2x2x1/4" wall tube running the length and then the round tube sprouting out from there.

Not if you buy the weld on kit with out cat protection
You have alot to learn :flipoff2:

And even at $550 for the bolt on set it is still a bit cheaper than the others

even cheaper if you buy the pickup weld it yourself;)

Yes it is but, I wanted a little extra length and the kick outs in the rear
The kickouts work great for the tight trails here on the east coast
saved my ass more than few times;)

w/ o rotating should look something like this...

I have been thinking this over and I want take some good measurements and try and sketch up some thoughts.

Walking Eagle, the runner is a trapezoid, correct? And that is mounted to your stand-offs from the frame?

I studied on mine this weekend and I have to do some exhaust work to get the two side by side cats replaced with a single unit to tuck it up out of the way, then on to the head scratching :hmm:

yep - ignore the rotating part - and put 2x2x1/4" outriggers instead of what you see here....

They are First Gen Bronco sliders:)

Something else nobody has mentioned....

Ive used my sliders to lift one side of the vehicle using the sliders as a jack point and to me, besides protection and them being a convenient step, this is pretty important. With the little low pro designs I doubt you could get enough purchase with the hilift to get even one tire in the air.

Something to think about.

Easy enough to put a couple notches in the trapazoid to acommodate the highlift - even easier than having to have a tube adapter on the highlift.
