I am going to (finally) install my ARB sliders next month. So to prep for that, is there something i can spray or put in the holes of the frame where the bolts (or whatever thingy) go through to prevent rust down the road?? I read on another forum that sliders hardware can cause rust in the frame...and that you have to uninstall them every few years to clean?? I really do NOT want to do that.

Thoughts? Or am i just being overly paranoid? I travel back and forth b/w Texas and CO...so, i really want to protect against rust if possible.

For the hardware I use Permatex Anti-Seize that you can get a most any auto parts store or online. Silver for most things, copper for high heat applications.

I get the sense that you are looking for something to spray inside the frame though. I don't use anything, but BJowett's suggestion seems good.

If your in a rusty area unfortunately yes. Long term maintenance would mean pulling them off every 2 seasons or so and inspection for rust and most likely touch up here or there. 3M cavity wax mentioned above is great WoolWax is another great product and the bulk prices are reasonable 1 gallon +. Lather up the contact points and spray the inside of the frame as well. Copper based anti seize for the bolts.

green waterproof grease

I live in a rust prone area, and the chance of me ever removing my sliders is approximately nil. Use anti seize on the bolts, and hope for the best.

I’m guessing wax on the inside of the frame to avoid rust starting where the new holes are drilled for inserts, and anti-seize where the bolts go into those inserts.

But that’s only an assumption

Also good for the KDSS bolts heads .. and u-joints on the drive shaft.

Installing my ARB sliders next week.

This is my plan:

1. Waterproof Green Grease on any metal to metal contact...e.g. slider plate/bracket pressing against frame...i am going to apply this grease in between the two metal surfaces.

2. ARP Ultra Torque Assembly Lube...apply that to bolt threads and nuts.

Any suggestion my plan above?

Sounds messy. Good luck.

Yes, I have BudBuilt step sliders. I used small amounts of permatex silver anti-seize on the threads of the bolts. I cleaned the surface of the frame rail, and didn't put anything between the mounting plates and the frame.

I'm not criticizing what you are doing. It just sounds messy (the grease part).

The only time I've used assembly lube is in building engines.
