Just found that the tray mount on top of inner fender had torn loose. Have 1" diameter hole in fender as must of been broken for a while. What surprised me was how thin (0.025") the fender metal was. Could be that because of forming process mine came out on the thinner side. Anyhow something you might want to check on every so often. Patched mine with a couple of 1 1/2" fender washers and a nylock nut.

put some pucks underneath it too so it rests on the fender well and not hanging off the firewall/fender.

Thanks Loud.
Will be on the lookout for something to use under it. That is what it needs, if I had those, I don't think it would have torn the fender well.

Cliff,
Same thing happened to mine. So I redesigned mine to sit atop 3 supports bolted to the top of the fender (along with the PS pump bracket fender mount): Rock solid and zero durability issue for the past couple of years.

I'm sure Christo is into continual improvement of his products, I would suggest some pics and info be emailed to him.

Hmm, maybe i need to add some rubber support under my custom wannabe slee mount.

Christo,
Will send you a photo when I get back. The wheel well is torn, where bottom mount point of tray is bolted. Wheel well is dimpled up there for captive nut and most of the dimple plateau is torn away, about 1" diameter hole now. Too many miles of washboard road. :steer:

Can you post a pic? Is it the tray that tore or the actual fender?

Photo of fender well. No rust and it shows a little hammer work to flatten torn edges so fender washers fit better. BTW my PS tank has been moved toward engine.

Ya the cause is it moves to much and isn't supported well enough. I was surprised when I installed it that it wasn't more solid. In my case it didn't fit that well to begin with and I think that added some additional stress on the mount.

I did something similar to Spresso tonight and added 3 supports to the bottom of the tray. It's solid now and I don't anticipate any more issues. As it stands I would view the SLEE tray as a good starting point to build a better one.

I also drive A LOT of washboards.

I thought I bought a complete product, not one I would need to modify to work properly. I guess I'm annoyed at the prospect as I'm just wrapping up my install.

Can you share the mod (photos) of your set up?

Sorry I didn't take any photos. I was kind of annoyed and just wanted to get it done. Modding stuff I thought I was done with isn't a fun project in my book. :)

I did something similar to spresso where I made individual arms that extend from the bottom of the tray down to existing holes in the top of the fenderwell.

I still use the bolt in the firewall but no longer use the one that also holds the PS resevoir down. (The broken one)

About to pull the trigger on a tray. Can anybody post some photos of their added support?

I wouldn't buy a solution that doesn't solve the problem. Unless there's an easy, cheap and reasonable solution to this (i.e. extra washers under the fender well, etc), I'd keep looking.

If Slee is the great vendor many of you have come to love (although I'm not in that camp; nothing against, just nothing for them either IMO), then I'm sure they're working on a solution. If not, your money is better spent elsewhere for a solution...er, a solution that works.
