Does the 200 series have a foam barrier between skid plate and radiator?

After pulling my front skid plate and cleaning it on my 100 series, the foam (approximately 2"x2" x36") which was attached by glue or two sided tape came off. This revealed rust almost through skid plate. So I'm wonder why Toyota installed a sponge like foam rubber and if they also used in the 200 series?

Thanks, from your older TLC kin.

Yes, there is a foam strip on the skid plates under the radiator on my 200, but it is much longer than yours - about 2" x 2" x 18".

My best guess is that it helps direct air flow through the radiator.

Air follow is my best guess also as primary propose.

Is yours made of foam rubber that is more or less a sponge like material?

Do you see any drain hole(s) in front of the foam?

Note: Series 100; Foam 3" x 3" x 3' OR stated in inchs only 3" x 3" x 36"

It appears to be a closed cell foam with a smooth exterior surface.

I don't remember any drain holes anterior to the foam block.

The foam block could indeed be closer to 36" - it is a two-piece affair because it spans two skid plates. The two-piece design allows you to drop just one skid plate when doing an oil change.

If the series 200 indeed is using close cell foam, which the series 100 in 2001 did not, means the engineers realized the wrong material was used. The fact it is still being used indicates they have a very specific purpose for the foam barrier, important enough to continue its use otherwise the accountants would have surely cut it out of the design to save cost.
