I am replacing the rubber on the top with hard fiberglass. I have two holes in it driving out of the driveway so I am not convinced it is the best thing for off road trailers. The new piece of fiberglass will be ready in the morning, I will try to get it on tomorrow.

Setting up a temporary battery system for it to test everything. Setting the solar panel on the inside against the wall. A safe place for it at all times. If I go with a larger one I will mount it on the roof.

Have most of the electrical done and in looms, still have to add 12 volt boxes for fridge and other items to be used later. I am putting two 750 inverters in. One in the kitchen and one in the sleeping compartment.

Will look at having windows tinted when I have the graphics put on. Need to buy some type of day/nite blind for the front and side windows.

Hope to have it on the road, by this weekend so I can take it to High Sierra run near Mammoth/June Lakes.

Love Mammoth Lakes! We vacation there every other year or so...

Coyote flats

Not sure, have been up there for motocross events and mountain bike events at Mammoth, supposed to meet NorCalfj's but did not recieve map, trying to track down directions still.

Off to pick up the new sheet of fiberglass, more carpet, solar controller. Still waiting on batteries from Trojan.

top

Picked up the new fiberglass for the top and put it on this afternoon and evening. Put on the passenger side drip rail, and temporary roof vent, will replace when I can afford AC.

I am not a trim person that is for sure. It looks like crap, need a bender, but can not afford one yet. I never did it when I was building off road fifth wheels, just welded the frames and designed how I wanted them. I had a guy that could do the trim in half the time and it always came out perfect with silicone. Not gonna happen with mee doing it for sure.

Does not look like Mammoth is in my future, too much to finish and I want it done. It will be done by Sunday nite if I stay home, and that is where I am leaning.

Husker thru and thru

Born in Nebraska City, grew up in Omaha, joined Marine Corps, ended up in SoCal, in the mountains above Palm Springs.

If you are interested in one fo the flags, let me know. The lady that makes them lives in Flagstaff. I have never seen one in Nebraska. I think I am the only one she has ever made one for.

wow

:cheers:sweet, sweet, nice job, SKERFAN'S now you need a new redesign trailer axis coupling
I been saving $$$$ to starT building my trailer, I like the one like rezerf trailer, & now I like this one better, change of plans :hhmm::hhmm:
I have to many question if you dont mind,
Sleeping area is a 75 inch by 48 inch , ok what is the dimension off the floore from the rear bumpe to the front one ( or floore frame) is it 4X10 includ kitchen
did you glue the fiber glass panels? liquid nail? how did you seal the corners, you mention drip rail?
wow WOW:clap::clap::clap:

Measurements

Trailer is a ten foot platform. I wanted to have the micro wave so I felt 75 inches for the bed area was all I could do.

The fiberglass was made by Eclipse RV. It is bonded, laminated prior to me getting it.

I gorrilla glued it to the sides, but do not think that was necessary. I have screws all around the out side, around the door, and the windows, not to mention all the boxes for shower, hot water heater. I also have three bolts through the main frame to the side walls. This one was built with out jigs, so there are some errors that I will correct. Which will make the build much easier and quicker.

The overall width is 80 inches. That gives me room for outside boxes, carrying my mountain bikes, and generators.

I am looking into buying a alluminum attachement for my welder. That way I could build the upper walls with alluminum or have them made by Eclipse. Just depends on how serious I get about this project.

Way more fun to build than the box expedtion trailers, not much challenge to them, and someone else makes all the money on them. Will still build them if people want them, but would much prefer to build this type. I have seen prices for tear drops with half the accessories that I have in mine going for 20.000. I think I can build these with every creature comfort for 17,000. I just do not know if I want the hassle of it or not. Time will tell.

Anything you want to ask, do not hestitate, I will help you all I can.,

I was pretty sure that is what skersfan stood for! I have not seen a flag like that either, looks pretty . If your ever back up in NE look me up!

tank you very much, I dont know if I will built mine like a the tear drop, but close, I ask for the dimension just to give me an idea of the space inside, my consern is the water leaking inside thru the corners\, you kitchen door how tight ( seal ) is it
ones again nice work tank you,

Time will tell on the seal, right now it fits very snug. My seams/edges are like any current RV. I only have one problem area and that is between the fenders and the walls. I am filling the bottowm with high end silicone to prevent any damage there. I did not rhino line the trailer until after the wood was on. I knew that would be a problem, but had to get the design up and working. Did not know if it would be a go or start over, so therefore decided not do the rhino lining until I was sure.

I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION REGARDING THE AXLEL ON YOUR TRAILER
THE SPECTS FOR THE AXLE ARE?
WHAT IS THE ARTICULATION DIMENTIONS?
DID YOU USE A 22.5* OR 45* DOWN ?
OR WHICH ARTICULATION DIMENTIONS SPECTS IS THE BEST TO BUILD A SMALL OFFROAD ADVENTURE TRAILE ( PLATFORM 4x6)

axle

Dexter Torflex with electric brakes, 45 degree or 6 inch drop. and it is set at 2200 pounds.

Interrior

I was looking for something to keep it warm and deaden the nosise. It is very quiet inside.

I still have work to do to design storage. I may put a lift lid under the bed. I could do about 6 inches there.

I will be adding rotopax to the driver side, bike rack on the passenger side. Two small metal boxes on the fenders and possible two boxes on the rear to house the generators. I normally camp way out there, so I do not have a lot of fear of them being stolen, but driving down the road at 70mph in pouring rain, may have an affect on them, when I really need them.

I am waiting to put the roof rack on permanently due to the awning. Hopefully it will be in this week!!!!!

I have the ends of the trim to put on and then do the silicone.

I should finish all the plumbing today. May add a hot and cold faucet on the passenger side. Not sure yet.

Graphics are to go on tomorrow.

Planning on taking it to Johnson Valley this weekend.

Maiden voyage

The trailer maid her maiden voyage this weekend. A 250 mile round trip to Juliam for Expoberfest.

Trailer performed perfectly other than a small water leak from the air vent on very steep inclines. Will be fixed on this one with a plug and by moving the fill door above the water heater on the production ones.

I spoke with Phil Duckworth of Dexter Axles this morning. They have a new air ride/torsion axle. It is quite expensive, but I am looking at mounting one on the trailer. It is top of the line and used on the U.S. Military trailers. There question is do they have one light enough for the trailer. I am sending pictures of the frame to them to see if it will mount. Quite exciting as we would be the first off road trailer to try them. Hope to have pictures of the progress on the trailer tonight.

Well unfortunately Dexter does not make a air ride axle suitable for our trailer, 5500 pounds is the lightest they go currently. They feel that their torsion axle works perfectly for this size trailer. They build the axles, and have far more knowledge about what will work and what won't so, a little disappointment.

Getting close to becoming a vendor, pricing has been set.

Well the trailer made its maiden voyage this weekend. Everything worked perfectly and it towed perfectly. It is warm and quiet inside. I parked less than 50 yards from the main campfire, which ran until 1am. Never heard a sound as I hit the rack at 9pm. I opened the window at about 1230 and could hear faint sounds coming from the fire ring..

Generator ran everything, DVD worked well. Did not even use covers in the trailer. Got down to low 40's I was told.

I did find a small design flaw in the water tank. Being low I never considered how high the fill should be. On a very steep rock incline I noticed that the water was running out of the vent tube. Will need to find a plug for that and on the production trailers make the fill entry above the hot water heater door.

A couple more things to do to it and off to Anza Borrego next weekend. Pismo after that. Hopefully Don will post pictures, he still has not taught me how to use photo bucket. Tonight I hope.
