I'm going to do this tomorrow. There seem to be a lot of opinions on the best way to do this.
I'm not replacing springs, shackles, or bushings, just installing some shims and centering pins.

Unless I can be talked out of it, my plan is to jack it up and support the frame with jack stands with the front wheels at or just off the ground. Then jack up the front axle to take the pressure off the springs. Clamp the spring, loosen the U bolt, lower the axle. Replace the shims and pins. Reverse.

Any better ideas?

You may want to consider replacing the u-bolts if you loosen them up unless they are pretty new.

Disconnect the front drive line first. I just did this a couple of weeks ago, in the end the DL was stopping me from lining everything up. It was a Bitch to get out with the axle disconnected from the springs.
