Put together a simple , full extension slide, drawer system.

The whole thing is 8" high finished, and the drawers finish out at 6" x 20" x 24"...plenty of space now to put my everyday goodies. I did leave a 6" "cubby" at the end of the unit, for my AK or Remington 1100 if need be....more on that later.

Maybe some don't know...but the new 4runner Trails have a pull out tray in the back...quasi useless and quasi cool...can't make up my mind...;p So I made the unit to connect to it with 4 easy to reach bolts. The drawer unit is Baltic birch Cabinet grade 9 ply...pretty tough s***...all glued and finished nailed.

The slides are Accurides, and just painted a satin black. Chucked a piece of carpet on top to finish it out.

Very nice, been thinking about making something like that for my 40, thanks for some pics !:hhmm:

Looks good, Pat. How strong is that built-in slide on the 4Runner?

Thanks Dave....

That tray says it's rated for 400 lbs.... and I have had 9 - 40 lb bags of mulch on it with no issues.

Must actually be good for > 400 lbs, as I had 6 80-lb bags of QuikCrete(c) on mine.....pushing my luck

ANy way you can post a pic of those bolt locations? I like this project....good job!

Thank you:beer:

I'll get you some pics tomorrow...basically though about an 1-1/2" in both ways in the rear (by bumper) and about 10" in the front. Just enough so I could reach in with a ratchet wrench. I used a furniture bolt available from HD...and I'll get that size for you too. The slide itself is made from some foam core hybrid composite jammie...strong and light.

One flaw I did notice...I should have made it maybe 3/4" shorter overall in length, because it covers the little secret compartment (which may not be a bad thing either) just a bit. In order to remove the cover you have to pull the slide forward a bit. I only have items I rarely use in there, but like all storage it needs to be accessible to be useful.

Further info and pix to follow.

Pat
