Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience with the Fox suspension on my 2023 4Runner TRD Pro (Solar Octane) and get your thoughts on what might be going on.
I bought my 4Runner brand new in March 2023, and within just a few months (around 2,000 miles), I started noticing a squeaky noise from the Fox suspension, mainly at low speeds. I took it to the dealership multiple times, but they couldn’t replicate the sound... until recently.
Fast forward to October 2024, I had the Westcott Designs front leveling kit installed (only the front), and by 15,000 miles, the noise had become undeniable. Finally, the dealership was able to replicate it, and their service shop foreman recommended replacing all four Fox shocks under warranty.
Now, I know 4Runners are built like tanks and have a legendary reputation for reliability, so I wanted to hear from the community:
- Did I just get a bad batch of Fox shocks?
- Is it normal for Fox shocks to wear out this quickly with mild off-roading (mostly dirt trails)?
- Has anyone else experienced this issue with Fox shocks on their TRD Pro?
- How ironic is it that the first failure on a Japanese-built truck is an American-made shock?
My 4Runner is currently sitting at the dealership, waiting for a new set of Fox shocks (ETA: 2/25/25). Would love to hear if anyone else has dealt with this and what your experiences have been!
Thanks,
Allan
