the side mirror on my son’s 80 was swinging freely. Fix that and am now trying to snap the mirror back on. Broke it in the process!

I cannot get this to snap back on for the life of me. What gives?!

What’s the secret to get this back on?

Thanks!

It doesn't snap on/off.

There is a JIS+ screw in the bottom that attaches the mirror to the motorized assembly.

The screw needs to be removed to take the mirror part off, and put back in place to hold the mirror on.

There are two hooks at the top and a screw from below.

Several vendors offer repair parts, Solvefunction has a couple, Slee has one. Depends upon what (if anything) is damaged.

Edit: at least on my 94. There may be differences between years?

First step is to download the factory service manual from the resources section.

That mirror assembly may be toast depending on what plastic parts cracked or split during your removal. The factory glass is still available,
part # 8794760070. The rest of the miiror is only sold as a unit, either OEM or aftermarket. The internals are the same as early model 4Runners, so it may be possible to find replacement parts a little easier going that route if you can't find true Land Cruiser parts.

The challenge I’m having is getting the mirror to catch on the two brackets. One I’m pointing at. Is there a trick to this?

You see that white plastic circle? You see the metal tab in the center with the spring? If you remove the black servo assembly from the mirror housing you will see a metal pin on the back side going through the metal tab in the center of the white piece.....that metal tab and white piece are what attaches the mirror to the servo assembly.

Looks like you broke it during disassembly.

Probably because you "popped" it off instead of removing the screw I mentioned.

Stick your jis+ (or phillips if that is all you have) screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the mirror shell, remove the screw, and take the broken part off.
