I have thought about putting a TRD sticker on my truck and I always think; naw it will look stupid. Seening it on your truck Micah is makig me rethink it. It looks really good on yours.

Where do you get the spindles and latches I see on these?

Hi-jack over

Thanks
Jonathan

I personally like the centered tire look, so I went with the Slee rear bumper. I'm not worried about the inability to carry extra fuel with this set up because I'm doing a long range tank. If I ever did want to carry a couple of cans for fuel or water, I'd have something built where I can carry a can on each side of the spare like the Bronco pictured.

My thought is to not put anythng on the rear bumber because of the pain it would be to get into the back, it does look cool but if you have to get into the back a lot seem like a "pain in the rear."

It all really depends on what you're doing with your Cruiser. For example, if you plan on running a long range tank, you have to move the spare tire. I'd rather have the spare on the rear bumper than up on the roof or inside the vehicle. It is so easy to get to sitting right there on the back.

I've found that opening the latch and pulling the safety "lock-out" pin doesn't impede access to the cargo area. In my opinion, the benefits far outweigh the additional 5 seconds it takes to get into the back. It would be nice to have those dampers like the 4x4 Labs bumpers though.

I wouldn't do a full length swingout but not for any of the reasons stated above. It can be a real PITA trying to get a full length carrier open on the trail. Trees, rocks, etc... And it is always at an inopportune moment, like trying to get a strap out when you are wedged in between some rocks. I prefer a DS mount as for a LHD vehicle it provides less of a blind spot. However with a Cherokee you are narrower so centering it and running a full length swing out might not be that big of deal.

Thats one of the designs i was also considering. Centered with one can on each side. But if i could mount the tire to one side and squeeze 3 Sceptor cans on the other that would be preferred.

Can anyone give me a measurement between the taillights? Wondering how much narrower my Cherokee is. I'm 52" between.

Another idea i have is 3 Sceptors mounted flush against the tailgate with the spare centered behind. Something similar to this, but with the third can.

TOGGLE CLAMPS, LATCH-ACTION TOGGLE CLAMPS, RIGHT-ANGLE ADJUSTABLE U BOLT, 310 Series 2000 Lbs :: Carr Lane Manufacturing Co.

Thats one source for the latch, also McMaster Carr, Des-Ta-Co, and alot of the vendors offer them in their builders section.

I plan to order the spindle through www.4x4labs.com as they are the only place i see a 3500# rating on it. This is espescially true if i opt for the single swingaway option.

you're going to get alot of torque and bounce from the tire if you hang it out to far past the swing arm.
i would go huge on the spindle. IPOR would be and is my choice of spindles these days.

depending on tire size, you MIGHT get three cans on the back.

Here is a picture of my Kaymar rear bumper with the standard, right-hand tire mount, and a custom three can holder. The fuel can mount started out as a standard single can holder. MAF had it modified by removing the original can mount, and adding a new basket sized for 3 cans. I can mount the lisence plate on the back, but I typically don't have the can mount on when I am running around.

I find that the spare tire mount and the gan holder make towing my boat a little tight. I usually remove the jerry can mount for towing to give me a little more room. If you did a center mount tire behind three jerry cans, you may impact trailering, significantly (I wouldn't be able to trailer my boat at all.

Dan

Does anyone know of any pictures with a kaymar with two wheels on it for a 60? The one wheel always looks as if it goes a little over the center?

Thanks

The two-tire carries are different then the normal one-sided unit. They position the wheels further to the outside. I talked to MAF about this when I was first working out what I wanted to do. They do not normally import them, but they were happy to do so on special request.

Here is a picture of the 80 series dual: Kaymar 4WD Accessories

When we were on expedition in Baja, I had one full size spare in the stock location and one on the Kaymar. Plus the three fuel cans. A perfect solution for me.

Have a great day,

sweet set-up dan :flipoff2:
I have the kaymar too, but w/o the jerry + tire carrier...yet
my .02, I would do the same as your set-up, except switch the tire + jerry, so that jerry cans are closer to gas tank, raise the cans up so that w/ a super-siphon, I may never need to take the cans outs when pouring gas.
can I ask, how much did man-a-fre charge for the jerry can mod?
