I hope pic requests are permitted here since most of the interesting ones i have seen happen to be on 60's.

I am going to have a new carrier fabbed for my existing bumper that will carry a 33x10 tire and 2-3 5 gal fuel/water cans.

I'm undecided if i want a dual pivot or single design. Kinda leaning to a single pivot that will allow fuel/water can mount to be modular and removable when not needed. I'v seen some 2K and recently a 3500K pound version spindles available.. which should be enough to carry up to 500 lbs correct?

Now, this will be for my Overland built Cherokee but like i said i like the mods you Cruiser guys have done. I was a FJ-40 owner prior though. :D

Here is a pic of my SROR bumper that fits your description. Enjoy

Thats a nice setup, hadnt seen a pic but did read mention of Solid Rock. Are you experiencing any play at spindle when Gerri's are full?

When the bumper has tire only and I swing it off the ledge it sits on it drops a hair. When it is loaded with fuel and jack it drops a little more. Perhaps 1/2 inch. Half to lift a little to get it to sit correctly. It has been that way from the start and has not gotten worse.

Here's mine!
Didnt realized that mine is VERY similar to SROR's. Mine is a home brew that I built myself.
No play at the spindles...Got them from A to Z fabrication. The parts I got from Mcmaster carr.

Two spindle have much less leverage than one long one. Its not play in the spindle, its flex in the bumper. If I did it over I would have gone for two over one.

hey expedition,
since, you like the mods on the cruisers you've seen, then go git yerself one & stop modifying the h**p :flipoff2:
I have a rr kaymar like one below (this pic from TLC4x4 website), but w/o the tire/jerry can carrier...yet

My thought is to not put anythng on the rear bumber because of the pain it would be to get into the back, it does look cool but if you have to get into the back a lot seem like a "pain in the rear." Not to hijack this thread, but the real reason for my post:

AGeekboy what color are your wheels? And did you have them powder coated? And are you running wheel spacers?

I like my bumper from 4x4labs.com. They now have a "modular" system where you can easily mount or dismount the tire or jerry can holders to the swing arms. Check out their website. I like the double swing arm because I feel that the single swing arm is just too long. The jerry cans being mounted high an on the right hand side of the truck allow me to use a super siphon and siphon gasoline from the can into the gas tank without having to lift the full can out of the rack.

chicago, nice work. Do i see a block/rest where the two tubes come together and clasp? I like the flush mounting of the cans.

I see a cylinder under a few near the swivel, just limit the opening swing? Wouldnt imagine it's stout enough to hold it open with any weight.

REKCUT, good advice as i wanna do this just once. My only concern is having to walk around spare when walking up the drivers side. I deploy my RTT to that side and like the unobstructed path. But i plan a trailer build soon...

2mbb. I like that as well, ran across their site yesterday. Thats where i got the idea of the modular Gerri holder. They are the only vendor i see advertise a 3K spindle assmby as well. I'v read of too many 1K spindles breaking at the welds.

Dynosoar, interesting lock mechanism. Any chance of more pics? I was thinking of pass side spare mounting as well.

Anyone happen to know the distance between inside of tailights on your 60/62?

I'm looking for something like this, perhaps the kaymar one.
I however need one that can carry two spare wheels - no fuel as I will have a long range fuel tank.
So if anyone has any pics of two wheel carriers that would be great as well.

The aussy dollar is week against the GB £ making this kind of thing a bit cheaper at the moment!

I would be interested in these items as well, but 2 spare tires and a pair of Jerry can holders (for extra water) is always welcome. And I hate to say it, but aside from Kaymar and ARB I don't know of any mass maker of rear bumpers from Australia. I think many of them are in the US (e.g. SROR and 4x4 Labs) so I would think it'd be cheap for you with the GBP even though the USD is usually a bit stronger than the AUD. Either way, all are quality products, it's just finding what you want out of the product that's the hard part.

Rear Bumper

No gas can carrier. We built this one earlier this year.

Nice bumper Toyrod, looks clean. I'm looking inside your car at that barrier. Is it removable and what holding the top? Is it friction or mounted to the ceiling?
