On my 71 40 with a stock F motor I'm running a weber 32/36. It runs well and seems to have a lot more power than the worn out stock carb. My question is that a friend of a friend wants to trade me a weber 38/38 for my 32/36. He is running the 38 on his 22r and wants a 32/36. Will I like the 38 as much as I like the 32/36? My 40 sees about 80-90% road and the rest light logging road use. My 32/36 is in great shape, his 38 needs a rebuild. Should I trade? Would you trade?

If it's running good I wouldn't mess with it. But from what I have heard most F and 2F engines are happier with the 38/38. I have one on my mildly built 2F and it works great for everything but fairly extreme angles. Webers are pretty easy and inexpensive to rebuild. Also keep in mind the 32/36 is a progressive carb and the 38/38 opens both barrels at the same time. So your mileage would probably decrease. Unless your friend has a pretty healthy 22R I bet the 38/38 is drowning it.

Thanks for the opinions! Yes the 38 is drowning his 22r and that is why he wants a 32/36. I have been happy with my 32/36. The only reason I asked the question is that I have another friend who keeps telling me that the 32/36 is too small for my F motor and that I would be much happier with the 38/38. I realize that the 38 would get worse fuel mileage, but I thought if it would perform better it may be worth the swap.
